I have an update on my cousin. She hasnt had the abortion yet.The doctors said that there is a good chance that she will lose the baby, between 2 tubal pregnacys and 4 car accidents her insides are in bad shape. She was also on pain meds for her back so because of the meds the baby could be deformed if the baby does survive.she went off the meds when she found out that she was pregnant so now she is in alot of pain.Shes is close to having a nervous breakdown.

I feel so sad for my cousin and I understand why she is having such a hard time with this.It is such a miracle that she is even pregnant,I dont think that God would give her such a miracle then have her lose the baby. Please keep praying for her and for her sweet little baby.

Welcome heatherlynne444!!

CarrieS---I really feel for your cousin. She is really going through a difficult time. I'm sure with the right OB/GYN docs, there can be something done for the pain. I'm so glad she hasn't had an abortion! Is there a pregnancy crisis center in her town? They offer Christ centered counselling.

I think "right to life" has a pregnacy crisis center.I cant talk to my cousin,Im not even suppose to know about it.My aunt is talking to my mom about it, my mom wasnt suppose to tell anyone. My mom did try to tell them that this baby is a miracle form God,but they dont believe in God so that doesnt mean anything to them.

Aww, that puts you in a rough spot.

Hi again,

As I said in post #490 on page 33 of this thread on July 19, 2005 (wow, has it really been that long since I posted here?), I became a Christian in October of 2001. How that happened is a testament that God works in mysterious ways.

Unable to drive, I walk or take buses, trains, and cabs to get around. I commute to and from work by means of a commuter train that runs between Philly and New Jersey. I walk, get a ride or take a cab to and from the train station each day.

Prior to May 26, 2006, I rode a shuttle van home from the train station. (Because insurance for this eleven-passenger shuttle van had gone up $4,000 last year to $16,000/year--an increase of more than most people in New Jersey, home to the nation's most expensive auto insurance--pay to insure their cars--the operators of that van took it permanently off the road on May 26, 2006.) In 2001, the main road that the van driver took to the local mall was repaved, one lane and section at a time, so he had to detour. The detour took him past Ashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church, a little more than a mile from my house. I had been struggling spiritually since the death of my 74-year-old mother on January 9, 2000; the murder (by strangulation, during a house robbery in Philly) of my 31-year-old niece on May 4, 2001; and the events of September 11, 2001. Intellectually, I believed in God but largely ignored Him, assuming that I was in a dreadful limbo: Heaven didn't want me and Hell was afraid I'd take over. I thought I was not good enough to set foot in God's house.

But I had been spiritually seeking at work ever since Nine-Eleven, asking my friends there if this was all there was, and why this happened. One of them, a woman named Jacqui, told me abut God and His plan for each of us, and that He was her comfort during those tough, confusing days. At a counseling session at work a few days after those unprintables flew those planes into the World Trade Center, I admitted to not having a spiritual aspect to my life.

Meanwhile, each day the shuttle van passed that church, at which I kept staring, thinking that there was a hole in my life that hadn't been filled by rock music or activity. It seemed that God was speaking to me. "You wanna piece o' me? Here ya go". I resolved to someday go to a service at Ashland Pres, but I still had nagging doubts: "I'm a sinner. I'm not worthy to set foot inside a church."

I looked up the number in the phone book and called the church, asking if I could attend the service the following Sunday. The person on the phone was very welcoming and cordial, and said I was welcome to come. I did.

I'm pretty sure that the first service I attended was on October 14, 2001. I remember feeling really nervous, as if I were a vampire that would be burned to ashes merely by walking in the door. I found, however, that everyone was friendly and welcomed me with open arms. One man named Mark was the first person to speak to me. He told me that God brought me here for a reason and to enjoy the service.

That I did; but as I sang along with the congregation songs to worship our Savior, I started to cry. I had said the sinner's prayer to accept Jesus into my life and heart only a few days earlier, after years of backsliding from a commitment to Him in college; and as I stood there in the pew with tears streaming down my face, I realized that I was unbelievably far from God but that because He created me, He loves me with a love that I cannot even begin to comprehend. A feeling of peace swept slowly over me as I realized that we do not have to be perfect to accept Him into our hearts. "Perfect people need not apply", says the sign in my church's assembly hall down the corridor from the sanctuary.

I have attended regularly, become a member, and sing bass in choir. I shudder to think where I would be without Jesus in my life. I feel more at peace with things in general and feel that I've been richly blessed. It all began with a detour....

Hi heatherlynn! What a coincidence! Who knew?

i haven't been on this thread before, but we are in need of prayer. We found out recently that our just turned 15 yo niece is pregnant! Her mother, my DH's half sister is not quite "all there" & has the saddest advice for her daughter. Her comment's were "I'm glad it's you and not me." !!!! Yeah, it's a shocker & very sad. Our advice to put this baby up for adoption is hardly heard. Please pray for this situation. Thanks!

Jim---thanks for sharing, very touching. Gave me goosebumps. That's the great thing about Christ, He takes you just as you are. He is the potter and you are the clay.

Shovan---your neice is in my prayers. Is there a pregnancy crisis center in her town? They counsel and show options from a Christian perspective. My brother was adopted through Lutheran Social Services. They provided housing and health care for his birth mother throughout the last few months of preganancy. Since her parents would not help her.

I need some recommendations for a new Bible study to do on my own. I've done all the Beth Moore's, two of Jennifer (can't think of her last name... she went blind as a teenager), Josh McDowell's Truth Matters, Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God, Chuck Colson's How Now Shall We Live, and a few others.

Most of these have video to go with them that I did not have access to (except the Beth Moore's which I did through the church). As long as it can be completed without the video I would still be interested in your suggestions. Thanks!

Oh, I also would like suggestions of Christian fiction authors... I've read everything written by my favorites (Francine Rivers, Lori Wick, Bill Myers, Terri Blackstock, Dee Henderson). Thanks!

Have you tried Frank Peretti's books? I just got done with "The Visitation" during my lunch break. Excellent book. His books are mostly on the supernatural (in the God sense of the word) and suspense side, but are very good.

As far as Bible studies, the only one I have done was with the ladies Bible study group at my church. But I think it can also be done as a personal study as well. It's called "God at My Wit's End" by Marilyn Meberg. Marilyn is part of the Women of Faith group. You can check out their web site at www.womenoffaith.com or look her name up on Christian Book Distributors (www.cbd.com).

I love Kristin Billerbeck and Robin Jones Gunn. They both write contemporary fiction. I love RJG's Glenbrook series and Sister Chick series. Very funny and real to life. The women featured are strong Christians, but not perfect.

I am currently doing "Be Ye Transformed" by Nancy Missler.
It is an amazing study!!
Her husband is Pastor Chuck Missler, from a Calvary Chapel out west.
I highly recommend this study,
it can be done alone or with a group,
and there is no video to go along with it.

Blessings!

There is a great book on prayer called "Praying Backwards" by Bryan Chappell. It has study questions in the back of the book for each chapter.

If you want something really in-depth, Nancy Pearcey who has co-written with Colson has an excellent book on Christian Worldview called "Total Truth" and it comes with a study guide as well.

Check out Desiring God's website that is run by John Piper. Alot of great resources on there.

In Sunday School, we are going through John MacArthur's book called "Murder of Jesus". It is a good in depth study of the events leading up to the crucifixion.

Jim- Thanks for sharing your story:goodvibes

shovan - Im praying for your niece.

I have an update on my cousin. She decided to have the abortion:sad1: The doctors told her that she would probably lose the baby if she kept it. Doctors also told her that she would never be able to get pregnant again and they were wrong about that.

Oh Carrie, I'm so sorry  . I know how you feel. My brother's GF did the same thing even though he didn't want her to. I could have had a niece or a nephew and my son could of had a cousin a few years younger to be close to and play with.

oh carrie, I am so sorry.
FYI, if there is a Crisis Pregnancy Center
or otherwise named 'Pregnancy Counseling Center'
that is Christ-centered, chances are they
have access to or even initiate their own post-abortion counseling.
In the next few weeks & months you may
find opportunity to encourage your cousin to at least call.
The lies women are told by PP and others are numerous,
and one of the most important steps in healing
from an abortion is being allowed to grieve.
