Boring Children's Meals

I have been checking out the menu for children at a lot of the DW restaurants and most seem to have pretty boring menues- mac and cheese, hamburgers, etc.

My daughter usually joins us in eating whatever ethnic food we may be trying at a particular restaurant. Her favorite food is thai and she can order Indian naan and tikka masala and know what she is ordering.

So, my question: Are all of the options of kids so homogenized? We have the dining plan, so while we will share our meals, she'll still have the option of ordering a meal of her own-but only off of the children's menues.

Any hints on restaurants with more creative children's menues?

You might want to try some of he buffets. Boma, in particular , has a lot of differently spiced foods. Crystal Palace also had a couple of curry-based dishes. At the buffets the kids aren't ;imited to the kid's buffet. They can eat anything they want. Even though some of the TS restaurants have things other than mac and cheese and chicken fingers they are still boring. If you don't like buffets you may want to try Nine Dragons or Teppanyaki in Epcot.

Most kids prefer mac & cheese and chicken nuggets to Indian curries, I suppose that is why almost all of the kids menus at WDW appeal to the masses. I think it is wonderful that you have exposed your child to ethnic foods, but you are going to have a tough time exposing her to a variety if you have chosen the dining plan for her. Restaurants with buffets might be your best bet, that way your DD can eat any of the foods offered. I would highly suggest Boma, for dinner, as there are some interesting and tasty African-inspired foods offered. Since the dining plan provides for so much food, it is possible your DD could order her more boring kid's meal, but then you can share some of your more adventurous appetizers, entrees and desserts with her too. I would suggest checking out the menus at www.allearsnet.com as both adult and children's menus are posted there. Then you can figure out what is best for your family.

We have the same problem with DD8. She is not a chicken fingers or mac & cheese kind of kid. Some restaurants do offer a grilled chicken breast with veggies on the kids menu. Brown Derby, Narcoossee's and Flying Fish spring to mind, but I think there are others.

Otherwise, I would agree with the PPs who recommend buffets, particularly Boma (DD's fave) and Crystal Palace and sharing the food that you order. DD and I often share meals. It's always too much food for me and this way DD gets more grown-up fare.

Enjoy!

Buffets are a good idea! I've picked several buffets. She'll get to pick from a more interesting selection and we won't have to wait as long. I am sort of looking forward to some of the regular "order of the menu" meals. At home, we never order an appetizer or dessert (just has never been our habit), so I think it will be fun to go all out. I am sure that this will also mean we'll have more food than we'll ever be able to eat (meaning plenty to share with DD)!

Thanks!

How about teppanyaki, they have a bland kids meal and then they have a kids meal that is just a smaller size of the adult meal. Worked for my kids.

We are in the same situation with our son. I have actually considered saying he is older than he is just so he could order off the adult menu. (We would pay for the difference-dining plan AND park tickets! No flames!)
Yet ifyou go on allears.net and check out the menus, you might be pleasantly surprised-not jumpimg for joy, but at least pleasantly surprised.
Also, check out the Tangierine Cafe in EPCOT. That was my son's favorite meal-couscous, tabbuleh, lamb, hummus. Sooo good! Good luck!

Add Coral Reef to the list of WDW restaurants that has a more varied kids' menu - one is grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes and broccoli!! Yum!
