Borders Filed Chapter 11 on Feb 16

some of the closures are under the Waldenbooks division.........i would imagine the the surviving Waldenbook stores would, sooner or later, end up rebranded to the Borders logo.

The Michigan Ave. store in Chicago closed recently, and I believe the only one in Milwaukee is in the process of getting rid of everything and closing its doors. It wasn't even open yesterday (Saturday) in the early evening. It's sad to see, but Barnes & Noble is closer to my house, so it's not a big loss for me.

I don't really know, just suspect there is more browsing than buying. More than other types of retail stores.
i always thought it was counterproductive to encourage loitering with the leather chairs and couches and ours has a "seattles best" in it (maybe they all have one, ours is the only one i have ever been in) ours in the lycoming mall is not closing.

I heard something about it a few weeks ago so I gathered up whatever gift cards I had and got some books. In Tampa Bay area there are 4 or 5 closing. Very upsetting as I have always spent a lot of time in book stores.

I went to one of the stores (that was closing) over the weekend and there was a line 25+ people long. Makes the line to Soarin look small. I feel sorry for the employees as they were putting up going out of business signs.

I wonder if all those people buying those books will actually READ those books!!
:sad2::sad2::sad2:

Are there any Walden's Books left? I know the few in Orlando closed a handful of years ago. The West Oaks Mall location in Ocoee is where I cleaned them out of Bert's Bees items - they were %75 off!

borders aquired them several years ago and closed the ones that were in direct competition with their stores and left the ones that were not in close proximity.

One of our local Malls still has a Waldenbooks. It's branded as Waldenbooks, but the signage all says "Borders" (special offers & sales, etc). The Waldenbooks at another local Mall is closed & gone.

Sayhello

Boarders went down in the UK in 2009. No stores left here any more!

It's kind of sad that bookstores are closing up shop...end of an era and all that. I've spent many hours of my life wandering through bookstores.

But I almost never go to the bookstore these days. I order my books from amazon. I can't pretend to be sorry to see them go when I'm one of the people who stopped going to them.
