I am in Canada. Was talking to a family at my daughter's school yesterday who were planning a trip to WDW in March, but are no longer due to general concerns with the new US administration. This is the 2nd family that has said this to me.

Has anyone else heard similar stories?

As a rule I try to stay away from anything like a comment on another country's politics especially if I am visiting there at the time. However with the events of the past week, I certainly have lost any taste to visit the US until we see how this is all going to shake out. The moves on immigration and condoning the use of torture have left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth. The UK and Europe look much better to me right now.

In my opinion you shouldn't let what's happening politically in the USA impact what you're WDW vacation plans are...........especially if you're from Canada.

If something bizarre were happening in Ireland I sure as heck would question any trips to kiss the blarney stone.

It's a correct thing to do, to look at the political climate of a place you're going to visit.

We are Canadian. Our family was in Fort Lauderdale for a cruise earlier this month when the shooting at the airport occurred. Thank goodness we were at our hotel when the shooting happened. This was too close for comfort and it does make me think twice about travel to the U.S, it's safety, gun laws and general policital unrest. I think the U.S. will see tourism impacted with recent events.

Our family had a close call with the events at FLL. My in-laws flew out of the airport only an hour before the shooting. They had just completed a cruise and were on their way home.

Agree with this. My point is not everyone sees it the same way, and it is already clear there will be impacts on US travel including to WDW.

I am Canadian, we live in Canada, but my wife is a dual Canadian/US citizen. We are planning a three week trip to the US this summer, going to several states. My parents are feeling a lot of unease about it all, and are worried that something will happen to us given that we are a two-mom family. At this point in time I am not ready to cancel our plans, but depending on what happens in the next 3-4 months, we might reconsider.

A number of my coworkers who are big Disney fans (travel down almost every year) have decided not to do a Disney trip for the foreseeable future.

Everyone has to make their own choices. Travel to any country comes with some level of risk............It makes me sad that our friends to the north view coming to the US as risky enough to cancel a trip. o_O WDW has increased security in the past few years that I believe makes the parks safer. Surprisingly those adjustments are more about the gun culture in this country...........not because of the frequency of attacks outside/inside of the US.

I think if you read the restrictions put into place you will see that Canada has nothing to "fear". There is a list of countries where visas are not being recognized for various reasons but Canada is not one of them. Going to Disney World in March from Canada will see no impact on travel.

I think the thing to do is not panic and read all the information.

Admittedly, I don't get the "gun culture" of the US but as a Canadian riding the DME bus from the airport to WDW on Dec 31, the huge billboard advertising a store specializing in machine guns was an eye opener.

ETA: Upon further research I found that "Machine Gun America" is a shooting "attraction" not a store selling machine guns. Still...

If you don't want to come based on the current administration, that's one thing, but if you are asking if you will have trouble coming in from Canada, no you won't.

I am closing this thread because a) it has nothing to do with Disney Resorts, and b) discussion of politics is not permitted on the DISboards (see our Guidelines for posting, specifically #5).
