booster seat laws in US?

We are planning to drive to Disney. My son meets the requirements here to not be in a booster seat but just barely and does NOT want to go back into one for our trip. Does any one know the US booster seat laws - are they the same as here? Thanks

My daughter who is 8yr when we drove from Toronto to Florida I put her into the booster seat as its a long trip and made me feel more comfortable that shes more safe in there then not in one if we were in an accident.
