Just be aware that Legal Zoom automatically sets you up for an Advantage account and starts charging you $14.99 a month which is difficult to cancel. I bought my daughter a will and she didn't notice the recurring fee..ok..our fault for the first month. When I told her about it I watched her go online to her account and cancel it. So, another month another charge..I called and of course since it's her account I can't do anything about it, so she will need to call and cancel... Again. I also had a will and various legal fomrs done (yes..I know..but don't want legal advice here..these are simple forms and better those than nothing) and so I made sure to call and cancel before the first month was up so as not to be charged. HARD SELL and PIA to cancel. Just be aware of this if you decide to use them.

A few lessons here:

1. ALWAYS read the small print

2. Know that you can purchase a standard will kit at Staples or any other office superstore

3. Don't think any company is giving anything away --- like I said, read the small print!!

Yes, read the small print, but if the company charges you after you cancel, then the company is in the wrong!

4. Never, EVER sign up for anything that has "autoship" or "autopay". You are leaving yourself wide open. Sure the company is wrong for charging you again after you cancel. However, PROVE you cancelled. Unless you have it on recording or in writing (certified/return receipt) they can say you never cancelled.

Went through this with a tanning place (yeah, save it for someone who cares) and they would not stop charging my CC. I ended up "losing" the card so the bank would send me a new one with a new number.

You actually don't have a choice with a certain level of your purchase. I always read the small print... my duaghter not so much. I cancelled the added thing. and have the email to show it. My issue is shea lso DID cancel and I was still charged. Yes, I know about the kits..but the price and product wasn't bad for what I got..just the added hit and hard sale when cancelling add on was.

You could just report it to your credit card company as an unauthorized charge. The credit card company will just do a charge back to the company.

A better option is if your CC company offers one-time-use numbers. These are CC numbers that are generated and linked to your actual CC number. The only difference is that you specify what the balance is for any generated number. That way the company can try to charge you more, but they will get an insufficient funds response from the CC company. I know Bank of America offers that, not sure about the other companies.

I was going to use Legal Zoom for an LLC - did any other people have trouble with this site? I wonder if you can get a kit for that at Staples?

I know this isn't what was asked, but just a heads up.

I work in a small law firm in a rural area, and in just the last few months we've had 3 estates that used do-it-yourself wills. None of the wills are valid in Iowa because they don't meet the code requirements, so the property goes according to intestate (without a will) laws.

I can't speak about the LLC, but for estate planning, you'd be money ahead to visit an attorney.

I did a will with them and I had no problems canceling the charge, one call did it all. I am very happy with the service I got. Mary
