NY, NJ & Ct. governors just announced joint quarantine travel/ advisories for states with high Covid rates. Will be based on rates. Haven’t listed specific states yet. Will be a formula 10% + rate is one factor. Many states, including Florida listed. Travelers must quarantine for 14 days.

Alas, nail in the coffin for our trip (can't quarantine 14 days on return as we come home the day before school starts). Was pretty sure the Florida spike alone was enough to keep us away anyway.

As of Wednesday, that applied to eight states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington and Utah, according to Cuomo.

What’s with the boom?

Anyway, I figured they would do it, but let’s not kid ourselves that it’s not somewhat political.

With no tourism, NYC is going to get even worse sadly. They just hit phase 2 Monday. They are kidding themselves if they think as more things open, they won’t get the same rise in cases. They still get around 600 cases per day so things aren’t exactly perfect there either. NYS own metrics are anything under 15 percent is good but all the other states it’s 10 percent?

So I assume anyone going to Florida from NYC for vacation or Disney, now has to stay home for two weeks when they arrive. Could be hard for them to do if they work

Considering the massive amount of holiday travel between the states due to families, I see no way at all this continues to the holidays. Thats months from now though

ya, i knew this would happen. i doubt it will be lifted anytime soon. can't go now in aug/sept. in my heart (like a fantasy i was going). i knew i wasn't going in my head but my heart was going on my aug/sept. trip. This solidified not going. I was hoping the entry into fl by aug./sept would be lifted by then but clearly that wasn't happening i guess. now this. dh has to go to work immediately coming back. and ds to school . im sure there's people who won't do the quarantine but we aren't those people , we follow the law. i guess i will have 2021 to look forward to then...here's hoping.

Correct, except it applies to all of New York state, NJ and CT. Which is frustrating for those of us who live in upstate NY, hundreds of miles away from NYC, CT and NJ.

This is one rule that simply makes sense regardless of where you live in NYS as it has nothing to do with infection rates where you live, but rather where you are coming from. Also, to another poster, not sure how you can say this is political. NY's positive test rate hovers around 1.4%, which is spectacular compared to Florida, which is almost 15%. As a NY resident, I applaud every effort made to keep us around that number, and if / when there is a spike here, Cuomo will re-institute measures to bring our numbers back down.

Correct - the data completely back up this quarantine from these states. The political response was the states that decided to reopen against the advice of every single medical and scientific expert due to pushing from the administration to get the economy going to improve reelection chances. Let's not kid ourselves who had the political response. The data doesn't lie.

is this affecting anyone's decision who had park reservations in our tri state area this summer? it has mine.

....it COULD possibly affect my DS, who has already changed his DVC ressies FIVE TIMES.

....I respectfully disagree. Cuomo/Murphy had no problems letting "Gosh-knows-HOW-MANY" NY'ers into New Jersey to do their shopping. As a NJ resident, I've seen it first-hand. If they really wanted this quarantine thing to be effective, people should not have been allowed to cross state lines - ANY state line. That includes folks going into NYC too.

I’m pinning my hopes on two things:

1) the other states get their numbers under control. Already FL and TX have said they are pausing reopening progress. Sometimes people need to see the problem close up to change behavior. The numbers will be consistently re-evaluated to add or delete states from the list, which is much more logical than issuing a quarantine order for months on end that doesn’t update as rates change (looking at you, Florida).

2) the ability to substitute a negative COVID19 test for quarantine. Now that there is a rapid test, we hopefully don’t need to rely on stay at home to rule out infection. Back in March and April, we simply didn’t have enough tests to figure out who was infected, so quarantine for travelers made more sense.

Just because Cuomo is using science to explain his reaction to Covid 19 spikes doesn't make it the only reason he is doing it. I expect Desantis to retaliate any moment by extending the NYS travel EO beyond the current expiration date of July 8th, taking the reopening of WDW out of reach for all in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I got home from WDW on March 14, 2020 and don't plan to go out of state for some time. However, I've watched Cuomo quite carefully during this crisis. I heartily approve of his actions, but the timing of many of his decisions really stinks. This action gave folks less than 24 hour notice and leaves New Yorkers already in Florida with an unanticipated 14 day stay at home order if they return now.

...this is EXACTLY what I'm afraid of....my poor DS has already pushed his DVC ressies back 5 times and he is praying that he doesn't have to do it yet again....it's not only the resort, but it's such a hassle trying to rebook flights.

actually a great question for #2: why can't that be an option actually?
