Books that are real page-turners??

Mortal Fear by Greg Iles. His is a "little known" author but his books have GREAT character development. That is something I require in a book. As much as I loved the Da Vinci code and it was a real page turner, I was a little disappointed with the character development. Everyone who has read Mortal Fear loves it. Another good one by him is Dead Sleep, but Mortal Fear is the best. I warn you though--it is a "psycho-sexual" thriller.

If you like thrillers, I recommend any of Lee Child's books. He integrates twists and turns into his plotlines and you're never sure what's coming next ... but when it comes, it makes perfect sense. His new hardcover is coming out in a few months, and Amazon is already taking pre-orders. He's a well-kept secret.

Anything by James Patterson, I just finished his most recent "3rd Degree" - awesome book.
Also John Sanford's - "Prey" series - gotta love Lucas Davenport, Dennis Lehane - Mystic River as well as his earlier novels

Some of my other favorite autors include: Jonathan Kellerman, Stuart Woods, Michael Connolly, John Grisham (The Last Juror is one of his best) and Patricia Cornwell.

She's Come Undone is a favorite of mine. How aman can write about a woman that way is truly remarkable!!

I have been wanting to read the Da Vinci Code for a while now. In Jan on or WDW trip I saw at least 6 people at the various airports reading it.

I also love The Color Purple

Several John Grisham novels - The Firm being the best

Angels in America - actually they are 2 plays but still a great read. I saw the stage productions back in college and they were incredible. Haven't seen the HBO miniseries but all the accolades make me think it might be good.

Can't put down any Harry Potter books.

I am getting ready to embark on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

The Face Changers by Thomas Perry was a good read.

So was Flirting with Pete by Barbara Delinsky.

I've read both in the last week.

My favorite is Michael Crichton. I have read most of his books and have enjoyed each one, he is an excellent writer. Just recently, I started reading Eaters of the Dead (one of the few that I hadn't read). I'm having a hard time getting into it, it's a difficult book to follow.

Sue Grafton is also good and an easy read, as is Mary Higgins Clark.

I have a funny story to tell... DH is currently reading The Lord of The Rings. Anyway, he went to get some lab work done about a week ago and while he waited in the lobby a man noticed DH's book and told him, "Wow, they already came out with the book!". :teeth:

Keep them coming guys! I was thinking of posting this so I could expand my reading list!

If any of you are fans of the tv show CSI, they have CSI novels in paperback by Max Collins. Same characters - Grissom, Warrick, etc - but different plots than what they have already done on tv. I went through them in no time, couldn't put them down!

Gotta get in on this one. If you love to read, try the J.D. Robb series, In Death. I believe it is up to around 17 books now. Loved them!!!! They take place in 2058 I believe. I didn't think I would like something placed in the future where they have machines that make all of your food, use synthetic coffee and have cars that can fly but this is written so well, it's easy to imagine those things. You could always give the first one a try, Naked in Death and see if it interests you.

Try anything by Isabel Allende, especially Paula or The Infinite Plan. Anything by Maeve Binchy, I really loved Circle of Friends and Light A Penny Candle. Currently I am reading Middlesex by the author of The Virgin Suicides. I'm about 3/4 of the way through it, and I can't put it down (darn those kids and job!!).

Greg Iles is fantastic! I just finished reading "Footprints of God". I'm pretty sure thats the name of it, it's a new book of his.

I've never been able to put down anything by Clive Cussler. If you're into the James Bond thing, Cussler is perfect.

Another vote for James Patterson.

Harry Potter (all 5 of them)

Chronicles of Narnia

Michael Crichton

Good old classic Agatha Christie books, especially the Hercule Poirot series

Roots - I'm reading it now and every single page is fascinating.

I recently read a book called "She Loves Me Not" (it was sort of Mary Higgins Clarkish, but better). I can't remember the name of the author but it was a real page turner.:D

The Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.
There are , I think 12 or 13. They are great.

Another vote for She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb - it's a terrific book - you'll never forget it.

Also, Stephen King's Dark Tower series is very good.

The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver is a great page-turner

Another vote for the Left Behind series... the 12th one comes out on March 30th :D

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon are the best. Have to read them in order. The first book is Outlander. Not sure of the rest of the order but they are Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, and the Fiery Cross. Warning - they are all around 1000 pages each. I had read them before, but recently read the whole series again while recuperating from surgery.

Edited to add - Another book I loved was the Rapture of Canaan.

Jeffrey Deaver has some good suspense novels, especially the ones with Lincoln Rhyme. I also like James Patterson.

I have to add my vote to Deaver as well. The Lincoln Rhyme (Deaver character) novels are the absolute best. Great plot twists and will always keep you guessing. Excellent for fans of CSI.

A huge thank you to all!! I've made a list with all your suggestions and will now have great books to try for the next year!!

Happy reading to all!! :sunny:

I usually don't read books nor am I a big Stephen King fan, but my DH was reading a book that his boss told him about and he kept telling me little tidbits as he was reading it. As soon as he was done I picked up the book and could not put it down. Stayed up til 1:30am one night reading after going out because I HAD to read more. It was called Gerald's Game...awesome book. I read it in less than a week!
