We are driving (approx. 16 hours) with my parents and I want to try to rent Bill O'Riely's new book on CD - something I think we would all enjoy.

Any idea who has good deals out there on renting books on CD by internet?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about renting them by internet, but our local library has lots of books on CD for rent for free.

My father was blind during the later years of his life and I know that he loved to use the Cracker Barrell program.

Basically you could listen to a book and then return it at the next Cracker Barrell down the road. Of course, they were basically hoping that you would also EAT at all those Cracker Barrells that you stopped at to return your books at -- but I don't think he minded that very much either. :p

Otherwise, I would also suggest your local library. Ours will rent for up to 3 weeks, but they are so popular that it is really hard to find the "bestsellers" on the shelves. You pretty much have to get your name on the reserve list and wait your turn.

Just another vote to support your local library. Why pay for something you can get for free? I take out books on tape regularly and listen on the way to work. We've also taken out kids books that we'll listen to with my daughter when we drive places. I can't imagine why anyone would buy these outright for $25.00 or more when you can borrow them for free.

Another vote for the library!! We did this last year on our trip to DW. We have three girls (11, 7 and 2) and we rented the Harry Potter books. They loved them. Depending on when your trip is, I would call the library and put your name on the list of the book you want. If you are sure that this may be a favorite of yours, then I would look into buying it. You could also check ebay for it. You can get some very good deals on used books on tape. Just a suggestion!!

Cya THere!!

Most of you must have access to better libraries than mine. I can get books on tape but they are all older titles and I've gotten some that don't even play anymore. If you want a newer title I suggest the Cracker Barrel route. You buy a CD or tape there and drop it off at another Cracker Barrel (there is a day limit but I'm not sure what it is). You get charged a few bucks for the use and are refunded the rest of the money you paid for the book.
Another good place where I get used/new tapes is on half.com. You can get some newer titles there for a fraction of the cost of new. Some only barely used for just a few dollars (and postage). I've had good luck with the sellers except for one. But half.com refunded my money from this seller because she refused to even answer emails. It was only $8 but why should she have it when she didn't send my tape.
