im going to be calling around the 25th of this month to make reservations....my available dates are going to be feb1st-20th or feb29th-march 9th ....im trying to stay 7 nights 8 days....my question is will the cast member work with me and try to find me the best deal within those dates.....or will i have to do all the work....

It's best to do your homework before you call to book. That way you will know what discounts are offered at which resorts during your preferred dates. CMs do not usually volunteer information on 'deals', but they will answer specific questions about specific offers (if that makes sense).

Do you want a room only discount or a package? What level of resort are you considering-value, mod or deluxe?

MouseSavers.com has a huge section devoted to discounts, what to look for, and how to get it. You might want to spend some time there to learn some tips.

Disboards also has a section on discounts that lists current promotions:

Hope this helps.

You should definitely do your homework first! You may end up talking with a CM who doesn't feel like helping you make the best decision, or one that isn't aware of any discounts etc or who won't compare the two dates.
Are you talking about going in Feb of this year (2012), in a month, or in 2013? If you are wanting to go next month, waiting until Jan 25 to book almost guarantees you will not have a good selection of resorts to choose from. My vacation is booked from Feb 11-18 and they hardly have any resorts left other than Deluxes to choose from. I think all Values are booked and almost all Mods (if not all completely) also.

Definitely figure out your plans on your own, or with help from the Disboards before calling to book. :)

Is your trip next month? I don't ever recall seeing any last minute discounts so if you wait until a week before you leave, it's unlikely there will be any. By Jan 25 there might be something for the end of February, but most likely only the deluxe resorts will still be available.

If you are looking at Feb 2013, no special offers have been announced for next year.

I agree do your homework, there is a room discount currently available for travel Jan 2nd to Feb 20th but you have to book by jan 31st, but there are only a few mods and mainly deluxe resorts left.

Be warned that if you are doing a package, then you will be paying in full and that there will not be a room only discount during that time. The current room only discount expires January 22.

Always do your homework ahead of time. Keep in mind that it's a sales job and in sales, higher numbers are their goal. Most of them will offer the discount without being asked but some will not.

The only thing for the general public I see on Mousesavers is a room-only discount:

Spring Savings Offer

Save at select Disney resorts for stays most nights 2/21/12-6/14/12 (except 4/1/12-4/12/12, which is blacked out).

For stays 2/21/12-3/8/12, 4/13/12-5/24/12 and 5/28/12-6/14/12:

20% off All Star Sports, All Star Music, Pop Century, Fort Wilderness Cabins, Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, Polynesian, Grand Floridian and Standard view rooms at Animal Kingdom Lodge
25% off Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach
30% off Yacht and Beach Club, BoardWalk Inn, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Villas, Boardwalk Villas, Saratoga Springs or Old Key West
5% off most other resorts, including suites at the Deluxe resorts

Book by 1/22 as stated above, so you will have to call sooner - not around 1/25 as you stated. And since it is subject to availability, you may find the deal already sold out. I would call now.

I would check availbility on the WDW website before you even call - booking 3 weeks out is not going to get you a great choice of resorts.

I also agree to book before 1/22 to try & get in on the spring 30% discount. I was playing around with dates during that discount all week & most resorts are sold out for that promo. You may end up paying rack rate.

im really trying to get a week during value time not really a special offer....i guess i will just have to wait and see....the first week still has openings right now at a value so will see if it still is in a few weeks...not picky just wanting to surprise my 9 year old with trip....

Definitely be prepared to do most of the work. More times than not, We've had to specifically ask for the discounts and/or codes; not all the time though. I've even had to ask for the AP rate after initially identifying myself as a passholder and asking for the AP rate. :confused3 It seems to depend on who you get.
