Booking with two contracts questions

Again, I apologize if this has been answered, but I have googled and looked through the threads and haven't found the correct answer yet.

If you have two separately purchased contracts with the same use year, can you use them at the same time to book a stay? Or is it a process (book half the stay with one contract, then go and book the second half of the stay with the other). The reason I ask is because if you have to book it as two separate stays, really you are looking at two booking dates rather than one.

Also, if you have two separately purchased contracts with the same use year, can you use them both at the same time to book at 7 months out? Does it matter if the resorts are the same or different?

It depends on whether or not the two contracts and up in the same membership. That happens if both contracts are the same use year AND they are titled exactly the same. The first contract is considered the Master contract and is numbered xxxxxxx.000. The second contract would be xxxxxxx.001. When contracts are in the same membership, they act as one big pool of points for booking, separated only by home resort. Points are easily combined at 11 months (if they are same resort) and 7 months.

If you buy resale, be sure your broker/closing agents requests same membership if that is what you want. Disney does this automatically for direct purchases unless you insist otherwise.

The book "half with one and half with the other" complication occurs when the contracts are in separate memberships.

Thanks! This makes sense. If you buy one contract and then buy a different one a year later with the same resort and use year, can you still request same membership? Or does it have to be done when purchasing both only at the same time?Would they still be separate contracts if you sold them?

It doesn't matter how much time between the two contracts; if they have the same UY and titled names, they will be combined into the same membership.

They will remain separate contracts, so you can sell them separately. This is one of the reasons it is advised to purchase several smaller contracts rather than one large contract, so that if you need to reduce your DVC membership for any reason, you can sell one and still retain the other(s). Also, small contracts tend to sell faster and for more than large contracts.

I would only add (one more time, LOL) to make sure that any subsequent purchases are titled exactly the same and have the same use year. Always a good idea to make sure the broker and closing company know that is what you want to do.

If you have two different resorts with the same contract number prefix, you can use one set to book nights at 11 months out. Then when you are 11 months out from the start of the second reservation, you can book that one. So two contracts, same UY, same contract prefix, same resort, you can combine them at 11 months out to book. Two contracts same contract prefix, same UY, different resorts, you can book your stays separately at 11 months out from the beginning of each stay. Two contracts different UY, different contract prefix, same resort, you need to transfer or book two separate stays at 11 months out.
