This will be our first time possibly booking with a travel agent - I usually do it all myself :teeth:
Are there any risks involved with using a travel agent - if so what are they?
Disney gets your deposit, right? If you cancel is there any reason you wouldn't get it back (as long as you do it within the time frame allotted) ?
I guess that's it - I'm mainly worried if there's any risks involved :worried:

first of all - are you talking about an online TA or going to your local brick and mortar place?

I booked through Dream Come True Vacations (online agency) and all charges on my credit card were from the Walt Disney Travel Company - NOT Dream Come True Vacations. I think there was actually as disclaimer on their site that claims that as well. Prior to that a couple years ago, I booked with Air Canada World of Vacations with a brick and mortar agency and the charge on my credit card bill was Air Canada World of Vacations - NOT the travel agency.

The cancellation for Dream Come True Vacations also is the same for Disney, as are the payment schedules.

The only risk involved is not researching the company you book with. There are a few reputable online TA's out there such as the one I already mentioned, DU, Small World, Kingdom Travel, etc... go to their websites and investigate.

The bonus of going through a TA is that they can take care of all the little details for you and you just go enjoy your trip!

For the first time, I used a TA to book a trip. We went through AAA and it has been a very good experience. Not only did they take care of everything for us but they have went above the call. I mentioned to the TA that our anniversary will be 2 days after we get back from our trip and she palced a call to get us a free picture autographed by Mickey and Minnie. I didn't ask for it but I sure am not going to turn it down. (Brownie points with the wife)They also have mentioned about doing little things like that for my kids. you can't get that from booking yourself or even online. It helps to have that one on one.
