I will be going on a cruise in October and was considering booking another with my DVC points at the discounted rate that is offered while on the cruise. My question is if I need to change the date because of a change in plans or the dates originally picked are not working well with the school schedule can I change the cruise date but keep it at the same amount of points? Are there any fees for changing the date with DVC? I have heard of people booking while on the cruise to get the discount and than changing the dates after they get home. I was not sure if this is possible with points since the date I really want would be outside of the 11 month window when I can book and I would like to go in November.

I was confused when I first heard we could rebook with points on board and felt I needed to hear it from the source so I called DVC. If you want to cruise outside the 11 month window you need to call DVC when you return (you have a 2 or 3 day window) and tell them when you wish to sail and then call back again when it can actually be booked - they make a note on your account.

But, just in case I am confused, call DVC and speak with the cruise reservationists.

This is similar to what I was told, but not exactly. I called a few weeks after we had returned from our cruise and asked what the points would be for a cruise for 2 in Nov. 2005. The CM told me what the rate was for points and for points and cash. In the course of the conversation, I mentioned that we had cruise earlier in the month, and she said that because of that, we could get a repeat cruiser rate as long as we booked it within 3 business days of the 11 month window. She even told me the date that I would have to book it by.

A month or so after that conversation, this topic came up on the DIS boards and someone else said that you had to call within 3 days of getting off of the ship and that it had to be noted on your account that you had called. So I called DVC and was told that it wasn't noted on my account and that it didn't need to be noted. They said the important thing was that you booked it within 3 days of the 11 month window. I think this is one of those situations where you will be told something different each time you call!
