Booking Urgent Flights to US?

I don't know if anyone can help but I need to book flights to Las Vegas for next weekend. DH's step father is very poorly and the doctors have told DMIL that we will not survive. So we need to get out there ASAP. I can't go before next weekend as my passport has just expired and my youngest DD was on my passport and we can't arrange for her to have a new paaport before next weekend. Both DD's have US passports, but cannot re-enter the UK unless they have a British passport, which our oldest DD does. Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows if any airlines provide flights at a reduced price for people having to fly at the last moment as a matter of urgency. I know that airlines used to offer reduced prices for people having to fly out of the country to attend funerals of close family members.

Im sure you will not have too many problems actually getting the flights to your destination, however as its last minute the prices would probably be quite high!

Maybe worth enquiring about standby flights ie turn up and get seats on the first available flight? Heathrow would be the best bet as quite a few US carriers would be available to choose from but it would mean going via somewhere else.

Flying LGW next Saturday is £453 per adult on Expedia with Continental via Houston. Out of LHR with Air Canada via Toronto is £457 per adult if that helps.

Just did a google search re compassionate and often if available it is only for a funeral, but could be for a serious illness if proof is provided. If I were you ring United and American as they are two mentioned as having done this in the past.
