Hi looking to book a summer 27 Europe cruise and my family of 4 is bringing grandma along to join us. Kids are both young under 12. We usually get a family verandah deluxe and grandma is ok with an inside cabin. I noticed that putting one of my two kids in her room would only increase her room cost by around $200 but decrease our verandah room cost by around $2k.

Is there any downside to splitting up the rooms this way?

We are silver and grandma doesn’t have status so we might put the inside cabin under my name and have grandma in the verandah room in order to secure the rooms earlier.

Again looking for advice on any issues this may cause or if this is not a big deal and I should just go with it to save a good chunk of money.

Lastly yes I am paying for both rooms.

Grandma’s room covers 2 people. So adding the 2nd person only increases the port fees. The bigger room is paying more for any more people above two. Put a person with CC status on Grandma’s room so your booking window is the same

Not downsides but things to be aware of: the rooms might be in different muster stations, so if there is a kid in the inside room with grandma they will have to go to that muster station. And I think technically there might be paperwork needed if whomever is in the inside stateroom leaves the boat with someone other than grandma.

If it's easier, put you and kid 1 in inside stateroom, everyone else in verandah and then get BLANK keycards for the inside stateroom and the verandah so you can sleep where you want to sleep.

Putting another in with grandma definitely saves money because she would be paying the “single supplement” which is basically double. A couple options:
  • Book a child in grandma’s room. The child will need to go to muster with grandma. Also grandma will need to sign approval for the parents to pick up from the Club/Lab and take the child off the ship.
  • Book an adult with grandma. Get an extra keycard at Guest Services for the family’s verandah room. That patent would need to muster with grandma. The patent in the family room will need to sign approval for the other parent to pick up at the Club/Lab and take the children off the ship.
If the rooms have different stateroom hosts, you may want to put extra tip on the family’s room to account for the extra guest.

FYI:
Minors can only get off the ship with the adult in the cabin they are assigned to. But you can easily sign paperwork that allows them to get off the ship with the other adults in the group.
Also you have to go to the lifeboat drill for the cabin you’re assigned to it’s possible the two cabins may have different lifeboat stations.
