Booking spilt stay.

If I want to book a split stay can I book the whole trip at start of 7 month window, or do I have to book each section of the stay at their respective 7month date. Example if my trip is the 15th thru 22 switching on the 18th can I book both legs on the 15th or do I have to wait until the 18th to book second room? TIA

Each is a separate reservation with its own 7 month out start date, so you have to wait to make the second one. What many do is book two separate reservations for home resort 11 months out, one for first part of trip and one for second and then attempt to switch at 7 months out for one or both. That assures you will have a room if you cannot switch at 7 months.

And to piggy back on this. You want to make sure the name of the lead guest is different for each of the reservations. Otherwise, you risk MS merging the two reservations into a single one.

Just curious as to what happens if the lead name is the same but the rest of the list is different? If I have Person A on the 2nd part of the slip stay and I plan on buying the dining plan, and they merge the 2, then I have to buy the dining plan for person A for the whole stay, dont I?
(Not trying to stir the pot, legitimately want to understand fully)

As an aside, I rarely put all the names on a reservation until the FP window approaches

If you have two reservations with the same lead person at the same resort, same size villa, same category, the reservations will be merged. You have to move to get the dining plan for only part of the stay.

I have held same reservations in my name and the merging,,,at least for me, didn’t happen until closer to check in.. maybe a month or so out?

I think that they know people are doing this online so they can modify and change resorts. I know I have done it and put in a waitlist for the 2nd part which I think may have helped them know I had done it that way so there was no confusion I wanted the waitlist to replace only those nights.
