Booking short notice

The cruises we booked with GT rates have been lower, quite a bit lower actually then even opening day prices.
When we were on the Fantasy, we booked end of Nov for a Jan 10 cruise.
We wanted to book our next cruise on board but the prices were so much higher than what we paid we decided to take our chances later on. We are flexible though and usually dont plan ahead too much. Now... We are considering booking a transatlantic cruise on board, just because there is only one sailing and we would not want to take chances.

Is there anyone out there who regularly books short notice? Or have any experience with it?

My dear friend wants to join us on our cruise on Jan 30 on the fantasy and she says she's flexible to book last minute. Are prices as low as they'll be at this point or should she wait a little longer?

The ship looks pretty full but what do I know, I'm still a newbie. She travelling solo, afaik at this point, so the lower the price the better since she pays the same as 2.

Thanks :)
Tell your friend to start checking compulsively for *GT fares in the next week. The fantasy cruise the week before yours (1/23/16) just went *GT. I hope some good discounts how up. Good luck!

It dropped back to opening day prices. Its a good reminder for me to wait on certain cruises Ive been watching.

Thanks for the heads up!! The Eastern dates haven't changed yet, but I'll keep watching :)

Doesn't answer your question really, but we just booked last night for a Dec 11th cruise. That's shorter notice.

My only 2 cents is if there is an open cabin you want and the price is what you will pay, go for it. If you wait, the cabin may be gone!

Tell your friends the Fantasy Jan 30 has a VGT rate! It's the first option: guarantee with restriction.

I've always booked on short notice, either a *GT rate or at a Florida resident rate. The first cruise I went on was a 3 night on the Dream in Feb 2014, I got a VGT rate and booked it less than a week before the cruise left! It really depends when the GT rates come out, but it's always after the paid in full date for the cruise you're looking at rolls around, which is I think 3 months before the cruise leaves.

Just booked the Dec. 12 cruise. We should have booked earlier. Plus, the flight cost us more because it's so close.

Only booked because we decided this is our last chance at a FL cruise for quite a while.
