If I book a room only, can I put down the $200 deposit then pay rest within 45 days or is that for package only?

Can I add park tickets later? Should I wait until we arrive? Is there an advantage to either?

Im guessing no FD for my dates (oct 9-13, right before Columbus day) so do you think a RO discount might come out?

The $200.00 is for a package; for a room only ressie, you pay the first night's deposit and then pay the remainder at check-in.

You can add park tickets later to make it a package, but then you would have to re-book, because packages and room only have different reservation numbering systems. If you are less than 45 days out, it has to be paid in full. If you are less than 14 days out, you will pay a $15.00 change fee.

There is no telling this year about discounts; but you can look at mousesavers.com at historic data. But only time will tell; Disney seems to start cutting back on discounts lately. You can subscribe to a thread for the month you are looking for over at the discount codes and rates board at the top of this board.

I would say that the only real advantage is convenience. It's all paid for before you arrive, and when you check in your tickets are already loaded on your KTTW card. I also like to do the package because I have the Disney Visa and get 6 months interest free financing on packages.

You can pay for a room only in advance, you just aren't required to. You have to call to make payments. I always have my room only paid for well before I arrive, in part because I want use of the Disney Visa Rewards dollars.

Just another thought. We usually book a room only ressie with a AAA discount through CRO. Then if a better deal comes along we can change. Lots of people say that you can't purchase tickets ahead and have them on your KTTW. But, you can. We did this last year to take advantage of a 5% cash back on Discover when you purchase theme park tickets. We just called CRO during the deal and paid for tickets right then. When we checked in they were right on our card, and that is the plan for this year unless a better deal comes along.

Another advantage to booking a package is the vouchers that come with it. There are now 2 free vouchers for DQ included. I think we might give DQ a shot this year since two of us can get in free.

One advantage to buying tickets now instead of when you check in is you lock in the price. Ticket prices usually increase some time in the summer. But you don't have to book a package for that. You can buy tickets alone through Disney or a third party.
