It will be myself, the wife, and my DD(5) in late Sept.

We have never stayed at Poly(only visited for dinner) and we have never experienced concierge.

If I can take advantage of the 7/4 deal, concierge should only cost another $350.

I decided I definitely want a view of the lagoon. I would also like to have a balcony/porch and would like to be close to the pool and restaurants.

We might do 3 or 4 ps's and we usually do cereal in the room for breakfast.

Any suggestions/comments on buildings or anything else?

I will have to take a look at tikiman's web site too.

Thanks,
D

Lagoon view concierge!!! You get into a building with a great location to the pools, GCH, boat to MK and right along the beach. Remember 3rd floor is smoking and second has no balcony but the 3rd floor rooms I have been inside of were free of smoke smell and very clean.

If you have questions you can email me but visit my site and see what new surprises I have to help with your trip.

I just booked today LV concierge for the end of July.

Aloha

Steve

I would go for the LVC since you can use the 7/4 deal. I doubt we'll see a deal like that again anytime soon. Use it to it's full advantage!

Melissa

Ok. LVC it is.

Not sure if I should request 1st or 3rd floor, though. My wife can detect the slightest hint of cig. smoke - and she would complain. lol

Is it nice to be on the 1st floor and just walk out to the beach or pools?

Do you really get all that food on tikiman's web site? Are there tables or do you take it back to your room? Do they still have the bottled water you can take to the parks?

Sure hope this 7/4 deal comes through, otherwise, I guess I'll be hoping for an AP discount.

Well I am told I can smell things no one else can and I can usually smell smoke anywhere. The rooms I have visited were completely free of the smell but that is not to say there is no chance yours will.

I love the 1st floor. I like to have the open patio to not be fenced in. You can walk out to the beach but I do not recommend leaving the room to go to the pool since you can no longer lock the door since the key is not given.

Yes you get all that food but it can change depending on what the chef feels like. Most of the time it has been very much the same. You can see photos of the lounge where the tables are but you can take it back to your room also. The distributor to the resort no longer has the bottles of water available so they are not in the lounge any longer. They do have the larger glass bottles like the other resorts. And the other drinks are still available.

Send me an email. I have some more info for you.

Excellent choice! Visit another thread on this board,
"have y'all been bitten by the concierge bug" for more insight on the perks of staying concierge.
DH and I are both allergic to smoke, and I'd have to agree with Tikiman. Even when my b-i-l and his wife were on the 3rd floor in a smoking-optional room, the room smelled fresh and not the least bit stale or smoky. DH likes being on the first floor, too - he likes when the ducks visit. We've been staying Poly concierge for about 7 years now (except that March trip, which truly taught us the value of concierge!) and we absolutely love it.

Have a great trip!

You will love concierge with your 5 year old DD. It is well worth the money for the convenience of the lounge and service of concierge staff. They can help you get that CRT reservation! My DD loved the strawberries and it was great to have the milk & juice, cookies in the afternoon and Smuckers PB&J sandwiches at night.

I was there with my DD(4 1/2), DS(3) and DD(1) so I opted for the 2nd floor to be convenient to the longe and I didn't want to worry about younger kids on balcony or walking out the door to the patio.

Okay, now, wait..if I am just LV, no concierge, what buildings might I be placed in ??? I thought I could be in any of the LV buildings, including Hawaii and Tahiti. Am I wrong???

I visited Tikiman's site, but I don't remember reading about this in particular. Thanks!

Hawaii is where concierge lagoon view rooms will be. Tahiti was a temporary placement for concierge when Hawaii was being worked on (last summer).

If you are going standard lagoon view you could be in Tahiti, Tuvalu, Aotearoa or two rooms in Tokelau.

The other conceirge rooms are in Tonga but they are suites with an exception on one room that is usually used as an add on to the King Kamehameha suite but sometimes is sold as a regular concierge room.

Aloha

Steve

Hawaii is one of the concierge buildings (the other is all suites next to the GCH, not near the lagoon) but you might be placed in Tahiti. Tuvalu also has lagoon views, but it is on the other side of the marina, by the other beach, closer to luau cove. Check Tikiman's site again, as I'm sure this info is on it. He is the last word when it comes to the Poly. DH and I have stayed there every trip, but we defer to Tikiman on all matters Polynesian.

See my above post.

It use to be that all lagoon view rooms could have the option of concierge but I believe that changed in the mid to early 90's when the lounge was built onto the end of the Hawaii longhouse.

Aloha

Steve

Are you allowed to smoke on a 1st floor patio?

Some CMs at the Polynesian have told guests yes and others say no. I wish I could give you an answer to that. Maybe someone has asked lately. You can always call and see what they say now.

denman007, here's a link to the concierge thread I mentioned before:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=496940&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

As far as smoking, we got different info from different CMs during our last 2 concierge stays, both after the refurbishing. One told us that 1st floor was now smoking, another told us 1st & 2nd were non-smoking, with part of the 3rd floor smoking optional. We were wondering if they are still trying to work out how many smoking rooms they need, as we couldn't get a definitive answer in either Nov. or Jan. I just spoke with Aida in IPO the other day, and she is trying to get a clear answer for me, because we always get "stuck" on the 2nd floor due to N/S preference. We requested a 1st or 3rd floor room if there are any N/S rooms available on either floor, so she is going to get back to me.

I thought the question was weather you could smoke on a non-smoking patio. As far as Hawaii 1st floor being smoking I confirmed not too long ago that nothing has changed and that the 1st floor and second floor are still non-smoking with the 3rd floor smoking optional as it was before the rehab.

Aloha

Steve

Basically, I wanted to know if I have to worry about a neighbor perhaps smoking on their 1st floor patio.

Yes, Tikiman, this is what I thought from reading your site and from what we were told in Nov., but that was contradicted in Jan. by a concierge CM, and IPO was still unclear on it as of last Weds. We requested a 1st floor room in Jan. so our niece could go out on the patio, and were told at check-in that 1st floor was now smoking (which seemed silly, since smoke rises.) As far as whether neighbors will smoke on the patio, It's pretty hard to guarantee a smoke-free atmosphere anywhere. For our non-concierge stay in March, we were in Samoa which was supposed to be all N/S. The guests in the neighboring room, however, were apparently chain-smokers and our room stunk from it. You could actually see the haze around their doorway. As DH & I are both allergic, we called the front desk to see if we could change rooms. There were no other rooms available & they couldn't do anything about the smokers because with Niue under rehab, they were short of smoking rooms. They did offer to bring an ionizer of some sort, which they ran while we were at the parks for several hours. It really did get rid of the smoke and either the neighbors checked out or quit smoking, as we had no further problems. I think I'm really nitpicky about smoke (never could stand it, even as a child) and I've never had a major problem at WDW. The nearly smoke-free environment is one of the things that makes it such a great vacation destination for us.::yes::

I am in contact with someone I know in the Island Planning Office about our trip and I just asked again about the smoking rooms so I will let you know what I hear but here is what they sent me in an email just a few months ago.

"ALOHA!

Hawaii is still like it was before, 1st and 2nd floor are non-smoking
and the third floor is smoking optional. With the building being down
for rehab, it was cleaned thoroughly before it came back and that is why
many people think it is non-smoking also. (Unless someone is smoking
while walking down the hallway.) "
