If you don't have a specific cruise picked out, you can book a placeholder. It's a $250 deposit and will give you the OBB discounts once you pick a cruise.

thanks for the info!! so is it $250/per person and the onboard discounts are a credit for use onboard and do you get a discount on the price of the cruise?

Onboard booking: 10% off the cruise fare of future cruise. OBC based on length of cruise booked ($100 for cruises less than 7 nights; $200 for cruises 7 nights and longer). Reduced deposit (10%) on cruises of 7 nights and longer.

Placeholder is $250 per placeholder (one room/reservation). That amount will be applied toward the actual deposit when you select which cruise to apply it for.

Odds are high that those cruises will be out by July.

One more nuance that has not yet been mentioned: in order to qualify for the onboard booking benefits that PrincessShmoo listed, the new cruise must end within 24 months of the date the onboard booking is made.

Also, Concierge bookings are not eligible for the 10% discount.

There's been a little change - you must START the future cruise within 24 months now.

The bolded is no longer true. It only has to start by the 24 month mark.

thanks so much!!! can i book two rooms or is it limited to one room?
When you are on your cruise, each household address may book a maximum of 2 rooms/reservations/placeholders that will receive the OBB perks. Both rooms/reservations must be on the same future cruise.

You may book additional rooms/reservations/different cruises at the same time, but they will not get the OBB perks. Although some have reported that they will receive the OBC. Don't know for sure about that.

I did not know they had to be on the SAME future cruise - thank you!

Other than risking the rate going up after getting off the cruise, is there any more downside to booking a placeholder vs. a cruise that's already available for booking?

LAX

LAX
Well, the chance that the room you want (if you have a specific room you like) not being available.....or the kid's club filling up before you can book (if you have kids)....

But no other real downsides that I can think of.
