HI, all! I'm thinking of buy DVC and ran a search to answer one off my questions, but got no result. So, do you use points to book non-DVC Disney Resorts or do DVC owners receive a discount? I ask because I would like to eventually stay at every Resort on Disney Property!
Someone will come along with more specifics. yes you can use DVC points to book a Non-DVC WDW resort. You can stay at the Poly on points but it is very expensice "point wise". You can also use them to book a cruise...but again...very expensive "point wise". For DVC you get the best bang for your buck staying at the DVC resorts. You book your "home" resort from 11-8 months out...then compete for other DVC resorts at 7 months. So I can book at AKV 11 months out and at BLT at 7 months, hoping I get what I want or waitlist for it. There is a $95 fee per reservation for using points outside of DVC resorts.
I figured since I'd most likely get an AP that their 25% to 40% resort discounts might be the best route, but I thought I would check if DVC offered anything as good or better.
Points are very high for non-DVC. For a place like GF or Poly you could be using more points than a DVC 2 bedroom. Plus the non-refundable $95 fee, which gets charged again if you make any changes (like date or resort). Another consideration is once you reserve a non-DVC, those points are out of the DVC system if you cancel and expire at the end of your use year.
Some WDW on site resorts are not available to be booked on points - even if you wanted to do so. (As already mentioned, most would not since it is more expensive than paying cash and booking directly through CRO).
No value resorts may be booked with points, and neither can any deluxe resorts that have DVC wings. Those would include the BC, the BWI, the Contemporary and the WL.
