I need some insight....A month ago I booked a room without tickets. Apparently this is called a room only reservation. At that time we payed a $500+ deposit. It was my intention at the time to buy tickets from UT, but I've since decided that I just want to book a total package because if I have to cancel I need it all to be together. My husband drills for oil and because of gas prices I'm becoming uneasy about layoffs. This morning I called to add tickets, and despite my saying that I want to add tickets to an already exsisting reservation the CM charge me the $1000 upfront instead of adding them to the reservation so I would have to the 45 day mark to pay for them (or cancel them). We got that refunded and she transfered me to so that we could "add" tickets and the CM told me they cant add tickets to a room only reservation, we have to cancel our current room, check availability and rebook. My $500 will be refunded (which will take 2-3 billing cycles) and put down the new deposit. My biggest concern here is that I booked with a personal pin and I'm afraid that if I start over we wont get the 1 bedroom OKW villa with the 35% off. :headache: Does this seem right to you?

Well, putting tickets onto a reservation like that means turning it into a package. I've never done this but I believe when you do this everything has to be repriced. So you might have lost that room cost anyway. If she checked it and saw that she must have thought she was doing you a favor by not making it a package.

No she couldn't see it, as it turns out she never even opened our reservation and couldn't because she only sells tickets.

Every time I've switched between a package and room only or gone the opposite direction, they had to cancel the first reservation and then re-book a new one, but they can confirm the availability and price before they cancel your original reservation. If the discount isn't in effect anymore or they don't have any more eligible rooms, you'll lose it.

Yep. Disney has 2 different systems. One for room only reservations and one for vacation packages. You cannot transfer deposits from one to another. Annoying but that's the reality. If you want a package, the CM can check for availability at your resort for your dates and discount. OR you could keep your current reservation and wait to purchase your tickets until you know for sure that you can take the trip.

Are you worried you may have to cancel your trip because of job security?

If so, I wouldn't book tickets at all because they are non-refundable. If you book a package, you will have 45 days out. Room only, you up until 5 days to cancel.

You can always buy tickets closer to the trip.

If you're deciding that you're going to go regardless, then you should price out the difference in buying a package or not.

I booked a room only, then bought tickets from disney directly, and it didn't change my package or room discount. I know for us, the room discount was better than a package with tickets.

Also, I switched rooms about 5 times before finalizing the plans, and the refund came like 3-4 days...not sure if that was because of my bank/card or if that's normal.

since tickets do not start to expire until after first use I would do ahead and keep the room only reservation and get the tickets from UT. If it turns out you can't travel now, just hold on to them for future use. I have a set I bought 2 years ago before a price increase and expect to use in 2016!

I called back and the 4th CM today was able to make it work. The email that has my pin in it says it's expired but the CM said it is allowing him to pull it over into the package reservation. I checked, checked, and checked again and we still got the room and rate and added the tickets. We will have to wait for the refund for the room only deposit but that is doable. He said 5-7 days and he has never heard of it taking 2-3 months. Now if a layoff happens we are able to cancel any/all of the cost of the trip with the trip insurance. Thanks for everyone's input.

A refund can take multiple billing cycles to appear on your account. Any reasonable business will tell you this. It's a combination of when the refund gets processed by the business, when it gets to your bank, when they apply it, and your exact cycle dates.

That said, credits actually rarely take longer than a week.
