booking July 4, 2010

Question for you experienced DVC'ers:

We want to be at BLT (we are BLT owners) for next July 4th. We could stay either the week before or the week after.
Should we...

1. Call at the 11-month window on July 28 to book June 28-July 4th?

or

2. Call on August 4th and book July 4th for the rest of the week.

We'd rather start our stay at BLT on July 4th, then stay there for the following week (as we could get away with no Fri-Sat nights), but I don't want to risk waiting and facing no availability for the 4th.

What's the best strategy for booking 4th of July (I know no one has booked 4th of July at BLT before, obviously, but maybe some experience from other resorts?)

If it were me, I would call on on the 28th and get my ressie until July 5th, then call everyday and add one day on the end and take one day of the beginning. That way you know you get the 4th.

The other thing I would add is that you don't want to have to leave on the Fourth of July! Due to poor planning on my part we just had to do just that and as far as I was concerned even though we saw the Disney Celebrates America fireworks at the MK on the 3rd it was awful having to leave on the fourth.

Do you need/want a MK view? If so, my advice is to call on the 28th and book that week. Then call again on the 4th and if the week is available (I think it will be), change your reservation to begin on July4..

If you are OK with a lake view, you can just call on the 4th. You won't have a problem getting a lake view.

That's not necessary. The 4th won't book up that quickly.

I'm thinking the 4th may book up quickly as it is not only 4th of July, but is also on a Sunday next year so the points are cheaper. We don't need a MK view as depending on how things go with the lounge/viewing area at the top we should be able to see the fireworks without getting the MK view, we have a LV for Dec. 17-18th and that seems to be the 'sweet spot' at BLT.

Hi am still new to DVC, at the 11 month window, will they let you book for days outside that? So sorry if this is a dumb question but if i read your post correctly your 11th month window starts 28th July so am a bit fuzzy on how you will be able to book through to 4th of July at that time?

The reason i ask is that i will need to book for 3 wks next July beginning on the 1st, do i have to wait until the 22nd of August 09 to book all 3 wks? As we will be there for 4th July and understand this is a busy time i am unsure whether i will need to phone earlier just to cover that wkend and then phone to add days. Sorry i am probably making no sense at all but i hope someone will be able to decipher my blurb.

DVC recently changed the reservation rules. You may book up to one week 11 months prior to your desired check in date.

So if you want to check in on July 1, 2010 you can call on August 1,2009 and book the first 7 nights of your vacation. Then you may call each day beginning on August 2, 2009 to add one night to that vacation. That would be a lot of daily calls to book your three week vacation! For July dates, I would only do it that way if I wanted to be absolutely sure of getting something very popular and very limited in number. To me that would be:

BLT - MK or SV (only because it is new)
AKV - Concierge

DVC resorts just don't fill that quickly in July. Remember, this is about calling as soon as the 11 month window opens. You would be only competing with others who your home resort.

So unless you need something that is really, really limited, it will not be necessary to call day by day to get the remaining nights of your 3 week July vacation.

My advice would be to book the first week on August 1, then wait until August 8 and book the next week, and then wait until August 15 and book the last week.
