Booking for 2022 - do I need to bank points now?

I have a newbie question. I have a Feb use year with 53 points remaining in this current year. I am looking to book a trip for April 2022, so I will have next year's points. If I book the trip now and bank my current UY points (by the Sept 31 deadline), will the reservation pull those points first? OR do I need to bank the points before I book?

I do not think I will use these 53 points before the end of the year, but I want to keep the option open...I know once you bank you can't really pull them back.

You can always bank later and then just update your already booked trip to use the banked points.

Dont bank your points until you are 100% sure you won't use them during the current UY.

Honestly I'm hoping to change resorts at the 7 month mark, but I'm securing a room for my family after a cruise!

Yup just hit modify, pretend like you are changing dates but never change them and it will then bring up your point selection screen and use the banked points.

To add, you just don’t want to borrow any points as those can not be returned to their original UY after you have the banked points.
