Booking flights - pros and cons of two one-way bookings

As the flights get released 330 days prior to departure, I'm tempted to book our outbound and return flights separately, rather than waiting to book return flights on the release date of our flight home - hope that makes sense.

Has anyone else done this? What are the pros and cons? From what I've read the taxes etc should be the same whichever option is chosen, but I'm wary of making a decision that will come back to bite us in the proverbial.

TIA

Practically, probably no cons. Cost wise? Do you know how much one way international tickets cost? :scared1:

Unless you find a mega price glitch you can cash in on, I would wait

One way tickets are normally full economy fares so very expensive

To get the cheaper fares you need to stay a saturday night as these work out cheaper

As Lee says its all down to cost.
Just got a quote for random dates 17th July~8th August
Return flight £811.39
One way outbound £811.69 (30p more than return)
One way return leg $1,397.70 (£885 approx)

Return = £811
2 x one way £1,696

Saying that we have done it, once we used miles outbound then paid for the return leg, I found a price error on Orbitz.com, the return leg was priced abut $400 at $2/£1, to book with a UK agent they wanted £400.
This summer we are doing 2 x one way (outbound PE VA, inbound Economy Comfort with Delta) but using miles both ways, just costing about £280pp in taxes)

Forgot to say if you do see a good price for an outbound flight one way never book it until you are 100% sure you can get the return leg at a good price, chances are you will be stuck with a one way flight and no return.

I was just about to say, as I read your first post :thumbsup2 You obviously would have booked your one way outbound when the one way return had been released. I think I know you too well :lmao:
