Booking flights in $$$'s?

I know this has been asked before but I've done a search and can't find it :(

Unfortunately, this isn't even for me (as much as I wish it was!) but what's the general consensus of booking flights via the US carrier's website and paying in $$$'s rather than £££'s?? Is it possible or not?

My parents are looking at going to New York next year and Continental want currently want £470. However, looking on the US site for the same flights they want $581 which at today's exchange rate works out over £100 cheaper at £365.

I've went through to the booking page and can select UK in there without problem but just wondering if it's possible in the long run.

It is possible. We have bought flights in different currencies for similar reasons. The only potential problem is if the provider does not allow you to begin your journey in another country. With the US and Continental I don't see this as being a problem.

Just make sure that all the taxes are in the price!

We booked our summer flights through an american company orbitz, the prices were all in dollars, the only thing is your credit card will charge you a fee for paying in another currency. We paid an extra £25, but this was still much cheaper than any other flight we found.

I think it is worth it though. It is like paying £25 to insure your flight purchases. I do the same for my holiday deposits. I put them on a cc and just pay the charge. Do you know what percentage the card charge was? Was it the stanard 2% or is it structured differently.

Which website were you looking at ScottishGirl? Just gleaning more info off this thread to widen my options ;)

I was just looking on Continental's website but the US side of things. Just checked Orbitz and so on and they're all more expensive :(

Thanks! You were the one who sold me on Continental with all your help over the last year. So naturally my ears pricked up at the prospect of better prices. :lmao:

We have used Orbitz no problem, paid in $. All down to the website you use, if they accept you then you can.
As Jeanette says just make sure all taxes are included, Orbitz are some other sites are not.
Also use a fee free credit card, Post Office or Halifax have brought one out, you get full interbank rates and no fees. Most other CC's charge 2-3%
