Can someone tell me how it works if we book the Dolphin Encounter directly through the company (not Disney). How do we get from the cruise ship/port to the dolphin encounter place? What exactly does it include? I know the Disney one includes transportation, lunch the encounter and beach time but is also $23 more.

I booked directly with Dolphin Discovery for DH and DD6. The cost is $74/$70 plus $12/$6 admission into Chankanaab plus $10 each way for the taxi. We decided to do it this way because of cost and this way I can go watch with our 4 month old. Dolphin Discovey has a website.
I hope this helps!

If you are going to the one at Nassau, you can take a taxi from the dock to the paradise ferry... it cost us $4 each.

You can also take that same ferry from the dock for about $7 (thats what I would do if I went again)

Thanks I'm hoping to avoid taxi's because of the carseat issue (I don't want my kids in any car without them). So I could catch the Paradise Ferry at the dock? One thing I thought was wierd is according to the excursion paperwork I recieved Disney will charge for my 3 year old but according to the dolphinswims website the Dolphin company will not. That makes the price difference go from about $36 (the additonal Disney cost x 4, minus 4 ferry trips each way) more to book through Disney to $124 (same as above + one child admission) more to book through Disney. Quite a difference!! I am assuming though the one booked directly does not include lunch or beach time as it does with Disney... can someone correct me on this?

There is no other way to get to the ferry to Blue Lagoon (where the Dolphins are located in Nassau) without taking a taxi over to Paradise Island. This is where the regular ferry leaves from, and they do not come to the pier in Nassau. You're only other option is to take DCL's excursion, the boat for them does come to Nassau, though it is a hefty walk from the boat, with kids and kids gear. Trust me, we took the boat out to Blue Lagoon (waste of a day IMO, though we didn't do the Dolphins) and it was a NIGHTMARE! Neither of our kids (4 and 1 at the time) wanted to walk back, and DH and I were carrying them, we were EXHAUSTED after we finally made it back to the ship.
