Booking direct and changing to DVC

So question

If I have a Disney hotel booked through the website, but want to cancel those rooms and book through a DVC friend instead, would I lose my fastpasses booked?

Any specific way to do this?

What I've read on the FP sticky on the Theme Parks board is that if you link the new reservation to your MDE within 48 hours of cancelling the first one, you won't lose the FPs. However, the general advice is to link the new reservation to MDE before you cancel the old one, and then you won't be in danger of losing any.

If you have FP+ sounds like you're within 60 days. Are you even sure you can get DVC?
