Booking Birthday parties at DLP

We are going to DLP in May just before our children's birthdays and staying at Berny Riviere. We are thinking of having a Birthday Party for them at DLP. I have seen one in the Disney brochure for around £13 a head.

My questions are:
Can you just book the party or do you actually have to be staying at a Disney hotel?

Where do you book the party before you go? At a travel agents? With Disney direct?

If you book a party for 2 children and they are both having birthdays, do they each get a present?

Where do they hold the birthday parties?

Are they too babyish for a 10 year old girl? She likes Hannah Montana, Camp Rock and High School Musical, but also likes The Aristocats.

That would be the character birthday tea party at the Lucky Nugget saloon. Its not a "party" as such, more a pudding/cake buffet with hot and cold drinks, and a birthday cake and pressie for the birthday boy and girl. The characters come to your table, but be aware, they will be doing the rounds of all the tables, so it might not be that unique an experience for your birthday kids, if you know what I mean. You pay the same price regardless of how many birthdays you are celebrating, so if you want 2 cakes, 2 pressies etc, I think you'd be better to tell your CM that when you book it.

You might want to consider, instead, a meal with a birthday cake at the Lucky Nugget (lunchtime), Cafe Mickey (lunch or dinner) or one of the other character meal restaurants (Sunday brunch at the Steakhouse for example, or Inventions buffet at the Disneyland Hotel?). As not everyone in the place will be celebrating their birthday at these meals, your children are likely to have a more unique experience in these restaurants, when their cake is brought to them with some characters and the "Happy Birthday" song is sung . They won't get a pressie included, but isn't being at DLRP for their birthdays a present in itself?

The characters at the various character meals often include up to about half a dozen from Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip n Dale, Cpt Hook, Mr Smee, Tigger, Eeyore, Friar Tuck, Prince John, Gepetto, Pinocchio, Genie etc
etc. My DD loves the same shows your DD does, although she's a little younger. But she does enjoy the character interaction at the character meals too.

You can book direct with Disney, for either the tea party, or just a birthday cake to be brought out after a meal, by calling the Dining Reservation service on 0033 160304050. I would advise booking and paying in advance, as its cheaper to pay in advance in pounds, rather than pay on the day in euros.

hi - can you tell me which restaurants you can pay in advance for please? staying off site so cant add half board but it would be fab if we could book some meals in advance and pay in pounds. thanks xxx

Hmm, actually, I've just had a look at the brochure - all of the character dining, including the tea party, Cafe Mickey breakfast, and the birthday cake, mention under conditions "only presold with a package" - so I guess unless you've booked your hotel with Disney, you wouldn't be able to book and pay for these in advance ?

Sorry OP , looks like I've given you incorrect information in my earlier post about paying for these in advance - they only appear to be payable in advance as an add-on to an existing Disney package.

If you're staying offsite, you can still reserve a table in advance, but you'd have to wait until you arrived to pay, and it would be in euros. You can organise a birthday cake at City Hall when you arrive, once you've decided which restaurant, and on which date, you'd like the cake brought out to your table.

I went to the tea party in the Lucky Nugget Saloon last tuesday and was very disappointed. There wasn't a great selection of food and not all the characters came around to all the tables even though it wasn't very busy. There were some birthday cakes brought out by the waiters and waitresses singing happy birthday and each birthday child was given a small mickey but it didn't feel very special.
I would not go there again and would suggest as above it would be better to get a cake with another character meal.

We had a cake for my daughter at Cafe Mickey, which she absolutely loved. The characters came to the table and danced with her while the 'happy birthday' song was playing, then they helped her blow out her candles by 'fanning' the candles with their hands/paws

The cake was 22 Euros and it was delicious

I agree with pyebibby. The Birthday party at the Lucky Nugget is quite a let-down since moving from the Plaza Gardens.

At the Plaza Gardens, it seemed more organised, with the characters moving from table to table and shooing away people who tried to jump in. The food was great, with cooked sausages, scrambled eggs etc as well as a hugh variety of cakes/patisseries, which were all restocked.

At the Lucky Nugget, it felt like a free-for-all. No hot food at all. The cakes/patisseries weren't replenished and the characters allowed people to walk up to them to get their autographs. After 50 mins, the staff were clearing away the remaining food from the serving trolleys.

This was back at the beginning of January and to be perfectly honest, was a waste of time and money.
