Booking at Universal Hotel

Can someone that has experienced staying at Universal what the resorts are like? And also could you explain the packages that are available? I am somewhat confused with the different packages they offer.

Price wise Royal Pacific Resort is usually least expensive with the smallest rooms. Huge pool with a tropical polynesian theme.

Hard Rock is cool and teens love it most. The rooms are larger and the pool has a slide. You can pool hop to any of the pools.

Portofino Bay is usually most expensive has the largest rooms and offers the a posh setting. All three have transportation to the parks or you can walk. HRH is closest to walk to Universal and RPR closest to IOA.

I dont book packages but rather discounted room rates (works out best for me) using an annual pass (code APH) or a AAA card. Loews also offers seasonal promos.

we stayed at RPR in June/July this year ,and loved it that much we are booked for next year. The pool is really nice and DD loved it, the staff where extremely nice to, which helps.
Like Fan2CSkr, says ,we to booked direct this year , [as we did a package last year with a TA], and have used the AAA rates which has reduced the price quite considerably.
There are quite a few who have stayed at all 3 resorts, on here ,who will let you know what they are like
