Booking at 7 months

I am a new DVC owner at SSR. We actually really like SSR and will be happy to stay there most trips. However, I also love split stays and will try to swap out at 7 months occasionally. We tend to travel in fall so I know that will be difficult.

How do I book at 7 months to make it happen the quickest way possible?
I will book 2 separate stays at SSR at 11months. Let’s say a 3/4 day split. If I want to switch one to let’s say Poly at 7 months how do I do that?

Where do I want to be at 7:59am on the website? Dates pulled up looking at Poly? Dates pulled up looking at all available resorts?

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense. Just want a quick overview of how to be efficient at booking during popular times.

Yes, book two separate stays at your home resort. At 7 months, use the modify option on the reservation you want to change. If there is availability, your SSR reservation will be changed to the new resort and the points reused. If there isn't availability, your SSR reservation remains. You can waitlist if you want.

You can make a practice reservation for something now and then try to modify it so that you become familiar with the process. Cancel when done. Just be sure to practice with something more than 31 days in advance so you don't get caught with holding points.

And to add to what Carol said with practice, don’t borrow any points since they could get stuck.

DVC is currently returning borrowed points due to COVID but that could change at any time and you don’t want to be stuck since you are just practicing!

You want the booking window ready to rock with your dates selected. If it is a split stay, keep in mind you will have to wait to book the second leg of the trip. As a fellow SSR owner, I just booked a Memorial Day trip and we successfully booked a split stay at the 7 month mark for 2 nights at BWV and just had the wait-list hit yesterday for 3 nights at VGF (that replaced a BLT reservation). All of these are studios.
