Booking at 11 months then 7 months

Sorry for the noob question but perhaps someone could help me out. I plan to try and book at 11 months at home resort but i may want to try at the 7 month mark on another resort. When I wake up at 5am to try and book at 7 months (which i've never done due to just recently passing ROFR) and I find the room i want, do i have to cancel my other reservation first or can i book the room and cancel at the same time.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

If you need the points from your first reservation, then yes, you would have to cancel the first reservation before you make the second.

If you have enough points to make the second reservation, book it, then go back and cancel the first.

It is usually a nerve wracking minute after you have cancelled while you make the new reservation but it usually works out. you are best doing it yourself as you are doing this before MS opens and they have to do it exactly the same way an hour later.

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming cancelling only takes a minute or two. Can you somehow hold the timeslot as you begin making the reservations while cancelling on another open browser? Just trying to optimize the procedure here

No, you cannot lock-in the reservation first and then cancel the other one. I have test tried that and what happens after you cancel in one window the prior reservation and then go back to the other window where you are ready to click reserve for your new already locked in reservation is that you can't refresh the page and have your points from the cancelled reservation show up for use; doing that takes you back to the beginning of the reservation windows where you have to start over.

Note cancellation actually takes a lot less than a minute.

Query; at which resort do you own, approximately when are you thinking of going and what do you want to try to get at 7 months?

I will own SSR soon and want to get presidents week at BLT in a studio. I had planned to get 5 days SSR first then try BLT when my 7 months come up. Its not a humongous deal to not get BLT but my kids are young so I thought it would be fun being around the MK.

SSR is always open everyday of the year at 7 months out and thus if you cannot get BLT you will easily be able to get SSR at 7 months out. Also, for that time of year you will have no problem getting BLT lake view or theme park view but you should never expect to get BLT standard view almost any time of year because it is usually gone at 7 months out. Also open at that time 7 months out should be OKW, BWV pool/garden, VWL, AKV savanna and standard, and probably BCV.
