I understand that it can be difficult if you have a last minute emergency and have to cancel, but there are ways to get rescheduled. may be a bit difficult, but it can be done.

It depends on the owner's situation. For example, if it's near the end of the owner's Use Year and past their banking deadline for the points used for your reservation, it may not be possible to reschedule. If the owner used banked or borrowed points, and it's a busy time of year for DVC, there may be no availability before the owner's points expire. A last minute cancellation would cause the owner's points to go into the holding account where the only option is to book within 60 days of check in. DVC operates at close to 100% occupancy so it can be difficult to book a trip on such short notice. For these reasons, many owners who rent their points have a "no refunds" policy and some are unwilling to reschedule a trip if the renter cancels.

... By the way, as quoted above, where does the $50 a day maid service come in??!! I know you don't get daily maid service if you go through DVC, only after your 3rd or 4th day is it? But who has to pay the $50 a day? ... I had great communication with the family I rented from and they have been so helpful & patient with me. We had to make a couple of changes with my reservation and it was done with no problems. For your stay at AKV, you won't get any housekeeping at all since you are only staying 3 nights. Your towels will not be replaced and your trash will not be removed.

For your stay at OKW, you will get your towels replaced and your trash removed on day 4 of your 6 day stay. No other housekeeping.

But if you wanted your bedding replaced or even made, you would have to pay the daily housekeeping fees for whatever days you wanted full housekeeping. Or if you wanted extra towels, you will have to pay for them.

You were very lucky in getting a member who was able to make changes for you. Very lucky. And they were lucky to get you the changes that you needed. There are lots of members out there trying to get early Dec reservations and they are booked solid. I have heard from one new member at AKV who wanted to get the first week of Dec and nothing at all was available. Nothing.
