Booking a villa, do you ask for the address?

Contrary to other's experiences, we've always been told addresses, or been directed to a website that has it on. It's absurd to be asked to part with money before finding out what you are renting. Is there any chance it's a management company that has a number of villas and doesn't guarantee which one you're in?

It was directly with a person.

I understand the need to protect the house from burglars and I would be prepared to pay a small amount as a deposit before knowing the address, paying over $1000 before knowing the address is too much of a risk.
