This maybe a stupid question ;) and it's probably been covered numerous times before but I'm wondering how to handle booking a room at a resort that isn't our home resort!

I want to take my DD for a few day next April for her birthday, just her and I. Tomorrow would be the 11 month mark to book at our home resort (AKV) But I know she really wants to stay at Boardwalk or Beach Club.

I'm wondering if I should book a room at AKV and then switch at the 7 month mark. That way no matter what I know I have a room even if it isn't at the resort of her choice.

TIA for the help!

thats what we do. We have ssr and bwv as our home resorts but never try to stay there. We will call at 11 month window for boardwalk book room what ever catergory we want then call back at 7 month window and see what is available. Many times we book at 7 month window for ssr because it usually doesnt fill as fast as others and if where we want isnt available we ask to be put on wait list. We have usually gotten our request. We request comes available they change it and tell us we have been changed.

...(snip).....I'm wondering if I should book a room at AKV and then switch at the 7 month mark. That way no matter what I know I have a room even if it isn't at the resort of her choice.

Good idea - especially if you will need to commit to airfare prior to the 7 month window opening.

That's absolutely the best way to do it--book your resort at 11-month point, call MS at the 7-month point to see what's available where you really want to stay, and if it's not available, then go on a waitlist. However, there have been instances (many of which you can find on the DIS) where someone called in to switch resorts at the 7-month point only to find that in the time it took to cancel the 11-month ressie and then try to plug in the 7-month one, both disappeared. That usually only happens during peak booking times, but it has happened. Good luck!

That's the way to do it.

I have two sons getting married this year - one last weekend and one in June.

OKW is our home resort. I booked both stays at 11 months.

At 7 months I called and switched to AKV and BLT for a split May stay, and then called at 7 months to change the June stay to BCV. It was a simple transaction (of course the fact that the rooms were available helped). I waitlisted for a MK view at BLT but that never came through.

I'm sure your daughter will enjoy her birthday no matter where you stay, but it would be nice to get the area she wants. Good luck.
