Booking a package thru Delta - trip insurance question

Ok.

I'm booking a package through Delta airlines because they can get me Port Orleans and Dreams Unlimited cannot for some reason.

So........ I am not booking flights. JUST the hotel, free dining, and park tickets.

Trying to decide whether the $220 to insure my party is worth it.

I typically buy trip insurance.

But in this case, if our trip falls apart for some reason, obviously I'm not out anything with the dining.

Am I correct that I could save my 8 day base tickets to use any time, or do they expire even if I don't use the first day? (I know about the 14 day period).

And what is Disney going to do if I can't come and have to cancel my room? Am I just out of luck? Will I have to pay for the whole reservation, or just one night? If it's just one night and the tickets are good later, it seems like $220 isn't worth it.

Somebody correct my assumptions and/or my math.

Thanks!

I don't see why they would work any different than another travel agency. It's up to you if the $$ is worth peace of mind or not. Would you get the insurance thru dreams unlimited if you had used them?

Basically my question is just this: If I don't have Delta's insurance, what is the basic policy of the Disney resorts if you have to cancel your room.

Are you stuck paying for the whole thing?

You need to read and understand Delta Vacations' cancellation policy - not jus Disney's.

If you book through Delta I don't think Disney has anything to do with it...the package is paid and booked through Delta. Delta then makes the reservations and I'm guessing pays for it. If you cancel you still owe Delta the money. You can probably rebook for different dates but there's probably a change fee...but I'd check on that.

I just checked Delta package costs and they aren't ant cheaper than booking directly with WDW and with WDW you don't pay the full total until 45 days in advance of a trip.

As someone mentioned, kind of confused why Dreams Unlimited couldn't get you a room. What are your dates?

Dreams unlimited was confused as well. Delta had port Orleans with free dining but dreams unlimited didn't.

My only guess is that delta had some cancellations of a block that they had previously sold, and they were selling the m again.

Anyway it is moot because I hesitated too long and the port Orleans rooms are gone from delta.

I'm on some new meds and I'm kind of loopy so I've been posting stupid questions. Apologies.

If you cancel a package, you don't get the tickets. The tickets are given to you on your room key when you arrive.

You will be charged a cancellation fee, I believe it's $200 if 44 days before arrival or less.
