Booking a package for 4 adults when 2 are AP holders

So for our trip in January we will be getting a family suite. It will be dh and I (we have AP) my parents (need tix), my son who will turn 3 during trip and my daughter who will be 1 (neither will need tix).

When I try to price it out on MDE it includes the price of tix for 4 adults. I assumed that since the APs are linked to MDE the system would recognize that dh and I do not need tickets. but thats not the way it works it seems.

how would I go about booking this?

Everyone in the room gets the same tickets and dining plan when you book a package.

If you don't want a dining plan, you could book a room only reservation online, and just get their tickets separately. If you DO want a dining plan, you can call and book a ticketless package over the phone, then buy their tickets separately.

You can book through Annual Pass room rates then buy your parents tickets separately and link them through MDE. When you say "package" what are you including?

I may be using the wrong terminology. I used the term package because we will need a room a (some) tix.

so I just do the room only option and then go to the section for tickets and add 2 adults tix?

Yep room only and then purchase tickets separately is your best option. Packages are when you book it all together and the terminology is only important if you want Disney Dinning Plan. If you don't need the dinning plan then room only (or annual passholder room booking) is the way to go then purchase 2 adult tickets.
