how would this work?

we booked a flight before to England before we found out we are having a baby.

of course with our luck the baby is due the in the same month our trip was booked in so we were going to cancel and rebook for next summer.

since we were just going to visit my aunt and it would be a quiet trip my mom thought that maybe we could reschedule the trip for 5 or 6 weeks later after the baby was here. which would be fine as we could get the birth certificate and passport within 10 days

BUT

would the airline (air transat) let us put Baby Lastname on the reservation or do airlines say no the kid has to be here before you can add them?

call 'em and find out what to do. We did this for a cruise (no flight booked) and that is what we did.

Is it a lap baby? Do you need an extra seat?

Yes, definitely call right away, and Congrats :goodvibes

yes it would be a lap baby.

we'll be sitting in first/comfy class (thank you mom for the upgrade :) ) so dd baby and me would be sitting in 2 seats by the window and dh will be right across from us.

and we'll also have the carseat for the baby to be in for a while but more then likely she(he) would be in my lap on a snuggy thingy

What airline? I know, at least with Delta, infants aren't allowed as lap babies in first class on international flights... Unless things have changed in the two months since I quit ;)

Anyways, a lap baby can be added at the airport!

Oh, and you can only bring the carseat inboard if you purchase a seat for it (and the baby) FAA regulation.

Air Transat

when booking on their website they ask if the child is under 2 and would need a seat or be a lap baby

so maybe not all airlines are equal? ;)

My friend did this, although they had the name picked out (they knew they were having a girl) and it wasn't a problem. However, they were unable to enter the birthday, which is now required. The person helping her was able to make it work and she just had to call when the baby was born to fill in the rest of the info. You'll probably just need to call and they'll fix it all up for you.

You need to check the rules about travelling with an infant in First Class. Many airlines do not allow infants in first class without a dedicated seat. Personally, we never travelled without a seat for our son; it was a safety issue with me. The airlines are considering your safety and the comfort of their other First Class passengers.

;) It might be different on Canadian airlines.

But still bear in mind that unless the car seat is strapped in a seat, or fits in an overhead bin, it won't be allowed inboard, THAT is an international rule. Just keep in mind it's a LOOONG flight to hold a baby. As a former flight attendant, I'd recommend purchasing a seat for baby.

Yes, a baby IS allowed up front, we even have skycots (first come first serve at airport), BUT there are only so many infants allowed per row, as per number of oxygen masks, so you would be better to add the infant now. You must sit where there is a double oxygen mask, and you can choose your seat now.

You can buy a seat if you wish, and the requirements for your car seat are on AIR TRANSAT's site. As was mentioned, this is very strict. However, you can get a bag at the airport for the seat and check it, along with a stroller, etc, for free. If you do not buy a seat for the infant, they have no checked luggage allowance except the baby needs as I mentioned.

Also, just ask for the infants name to be TBA!

thank you -

what is a skycot?

my mom said when she took me over when i was 3 weeks old they had a hammock thingy i was placed in and swung and slept the entire trip.

That is it exactly. There are only 2 onboard now, and you must have the 1st row (bulkhead) to attach it. That is why it is important to book your seats early, if this is in your thinking. You ask the Flight Attendant for it, and being up front and with an inf, you board first. It is EXCELLENT, only good to 22lbs or so, and 25 inches long, so the baby must be quite small, but it makes an overseas flight simple if you don't book the baby a seat of his/her own.
