Booking a cash reservation 101

It looks like we might be adding a trip we hadn't calculated points for. Can someone help with the ins and outs of looking for a cash reservation through DVC? We could easily stay at AoA and may do that anyway, but I wanted to explore the 25% discount option at a DVC resort as well. We are looking at Feb/Mar next year.

Simply call MS and inquire about Member Cash availability. The discount is not always available. You can cancel up to 5 days prior to check-in with no penalty. If you cancel 4 days or less from check-in, penalty is the room rate for 1 night (plus tax).

Is that right? I can see this becoming a problem. haha!! DW and I are going to chat this weekend. Hopefully I'll be giving MS a call soon. 25% is a great deal; 35% is crazy to pass up (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

I'll admit that even when I hear the 25% discounted rate for a DVC studio, I always audibly gasp. Then convince myself how smart I am for having bought into DVC and not paying those rates. Not that DVC has saved me a bit of money . . . I just go alot more and keep myself points poor.

Once you have your cash rates, check out renting points (or perhaps even a point transfer into your account). You still get to stay in the DVC resorts and the price may end up to be less. Of course, there are some trade-offs regarding cancellation and paying up front. Might be worth it.

I did get the cash rates this morning and I am not seeing that they are discounted by much. The CM said the discount 'was already built in' and was not aware of any 25% (35% for AP holder) discounts. Should I call again and try to get another opinion?

I have one night booked at the cash rate at Beach Club for June since it wasn't available on points, but I have it wait listed. I believe I paid $380 which is the DVC discounted rate. I checked online to book it through the regular WDW site and the same room is $509. So it's definitely discounted.

To get the AP rate, if they are available for your travel dates, you need to call CRO not DVC.

I don't think the cash discounts through CRO are available as far out as next year yet. They are usually short term offers that last only a few months. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/summertime-room/

The discounts through DVC are limited and based on availability which means rooms that are not bookable on points.

We just made a cash reservation in a Bay Lake Tower 2 bedroom lake view for October so that friends could join us (we are staying at Poly on points). It seemed to be a 25 percent discount, as it was $5,250 for the 5 nights with tax and they were being quoted $7,000 on the website. They were very appreciative that we could do this - it is over the holiday weekend and BLT is also rarely part of promotions, so it is particularly special! However, it is striking how much better a deal points would have been if we had them (and booked while available of course).

Does anyone know how many concurrent point and cash reservations we can make? I have other friends thinking of going at the same time, but am not sure if I'm now maxed out with our concurrent Poly points and BLT cash reservations.

Nope. The website says you can book for family and friends. We are on a points reservation at the same time. What's not clear is whether - for example - I can book another points reservation if one becomes available or if I am limited to a certain number of reservations at once across both types.

Place, the first person in the new reservation in someone else's name other than whomever is on the current reservation. Another option, is to use your middle or nickname on the reservation; that way DVC does not "see" the reservation as being a duplicate reservation, in which case there have been reports of one reservation being canceled by DVC.

You can book as many overlapping points reservations you need for groups, so if you have other friends and end up being able to use points, that is not a problem. I have held 3 rooms at the same time for our summer trips for the group we went with. In terms of cash, that I am not sure of. I did once book a cash ressie for my DS and DIL but the waitlist came through so they didn't need it. I wasn't going so they did let me book just for them.

Thanks! This is great to hear. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that the waitlist comes through for my friend's room or (more likely perhaps) that my stalking pays off.

I haven't heard of cash reservations, so I apologize for interrupting the conversation.... can someone explain? Would that be for times when I have enough points for 6 nights, but really want to stay 7? I can reserve the first 6 nights with points and get the 7th night paying out of pocket???
