Booking 7 months out (not home resort)

What is the availability like at the popular resorts when booking 7 months out. I know it depends on time of year- but in general we will travel during 'choice' season.

You need to be more specific - what time of year? Sometimes during choice season can be busy, others times not so much. For example, October at the BWV or BCV is very hard to get due to the Food & Wine Festival.

And I think more importantly - how close to seven months are you willing to call.

Often "something" is available if you call right at seven months - sometimes day by day (not always - for instance BWV Standard View rooms can be hard to get anytime at seven months - so can two queen 2 bedrooms at BCVs).

But if you are talking "sometime after the seven month window opens up" it can be a lot more difficult.

There is also the possibility that you'll just "get lucky." DVC doesn't seem to have a holding pool where cancelled reservations go until the waitlist can get checked. So occationally we've had cases where someone has been able to get what they wanted much closer to the vacation date with a single phone call - when we are pretty sure others are sitting on waitlists for those same days.

Think ADRs - it isn't hard to get into Le Cellier when the 180 date first opens, but wait until 90 days and you'll be lucky to get a 2:00 lunch. But if you get lucky and someone just cancelled their 7:00 dinner before you called, its your lucky day.

I just booked BCV at the 7 month mark for the first week in June. Could have had BWV prefered view as well.

But as other have said it all depends. With AKV coming on that might take a bit off for a while at the other resorts while everyone tries it out.

If you call exactly at 7 months and you don't have a special need (like a GV, BW view, etc), I'd bet you could get it. I just got my two extra nights at BCV for early June. I also got my three nights that I needed for VWL at Thanksgiving exactly at 7 months.
