I am planning to book my split stay for 2018 (by telephone 499 days out from my second stay date). Can I apply a discount to the reservation when they come out next year to my existing booked room category or will my (pool view) room reservation get put back into the general booking pool and then I would have to take my chances with what is available at that time? Whew, that's a long sentence.

It depends. They only release so many of each room category and certain resorts. If your room is one of them, they you should be able to get a discount. But there's a chance it won't be included in any discounts, so be prepared to pay rack rate.

Regan is right. Also, if I remember right, you can book to 499 days of the END of your trip. It's the only reservation which is dependent on the end, and not the beginning of your trip.

Thank you both for your replies. I am open to adjusting my room type, so will just wait and see. Also, FelisLachesis, thanks for the clarification on the "end"of 499 days. Looks like I would have tried to book too early.

Strangely enough, I just got off the phone with my travel agent about the very same thing.

If you book room only, you can do that 499 days out from the end of your trip, as mentioned above. You would be eligible for any room only discounts without cancelling, but if you wanted to get a package deal, you would need to re-book. The deposit would be one room night rate.

If you book a ticketless room package, you can do that when the 2018 packages come out (June or July). You would be eligible for room only discounts AND package discounts available (such as free dining) without re-booking, but would still have to abide by any promotion requirement (such as buying park tickets for free dining). The deposit would be $200 for the package.

So the advice my agent gave me was to wait until the 2018 packages come out and book a ticketless package.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to book 499 days out unless you're wanting a very rare room. We've only ever done it once, and that is because the room we were booking, there was only one of...

Thats great info, DVC-Dad. I only need the room (already got my tickets with the Canadian discount deal). Pretty sure with just the two of us that the dining plan isn't the way to go for us. Regan117, I do want a sort of rare room (POR Royal room pool view, but would be happy with a river view if need be). Oh who am I kidding? I'd sleep in the laundry room for the right price - just want to be at Disney World!
