We cruised on the Magic last April and plan on returning in March 03. I'm trying to decide what to book. DD 18, hopes maybe a friend will be able to come with, but who knows for sure? There are not many people you can invite that want to spend that much for their child to vacation with another family! If I book one cabin we can't add a person as there are for of us and no cat 5 available for our dates. If I book 2 cabins we pay 4 full price with no way to tell if this early if we will be adding a friend . But with 2 cabins we do get the bonus of 2 split baths, and DH and I would have a cabin to our selves with DD and DS15 together in the other. If we book 2 are ther adjoining cabins or do we just book them next to each other? If anyone has ideas for other options that I'm not thinking of please help:cool: I also do realize that just because a cabin sleeps 3 or 4 you may not be able to add a person if the ship is full so the earlier a desision is made the better. One added bonus is that because of mechanical problems that caused us to miss Castaway Cay we have 50% discounts for our family!

There are connecting cabins. If you need to cancel one though, I have read that you are able to hear the other cabin pretty clearly, which is fine if you are all the same family, but not so great with strangers.

If you look on the deck plans, you can tell the connecting rooms by looking for the symbol.

That is a great question. We are trying to plan for our next trip and had the same question about the connecting room.

Will the noise be that clear for the connecting room? Have anyone been in these room?

I think you'd be surprised at how many parents will pay this much for their child to vacation with another family. My daughter brought a friend with her on our cruise in 2000 and the parents have 4 other children but still put out the money for their 15 year old daughter because they knew they would never be able to take her themselves. This year.. we are taking two extra's with us (my son is taking a friend too).. the parents have no problem with paying for the trip. This year we did try to book adjoining rooms but there were none left so we had to book two rooms next to each other. I'm surprised that the rooms that sleep five were already booked so far in advance for you. When I went in 2000 we booked on May 2nd for a cruise on May 18th and got the room that slept 5 without a problem. Maybe people are starting to bring more and more friends with them on the cruise..
Good luck with your booking.. I hope the parents make it easy on you and are willing to pay for their child to vacation with you.
Smiles..

We booked two rooms for our cruise last Dec. and I won't have done it any other way. I have 3 girls 6,10,13 and they stayed in one room. It was wonderful, that is the way I am going to do it for our next cruise. The cost was actually less, but I felt like we had alot more room. We had adjoining rooms. I was wondering about my daughter taking a friend also....I wondered if the parents would pay or not, I know that my daughter would probably have alot more fun.

You are still real far out for the March 03 cruises. I would think you could go ahead and reserve two rooms, pay the deposit and still have plenty of time to cancel the "extra" room if you don't need it.
If my daughter were 18, I'd want her to bring a friend. She will probably feel too old for the teen group and while she can go into the "adult" areas at night, I don't remember seeing any young faces in the crowds. If she had a friend, she would have a partner to do fun stuff with, my 16 yr. old is bringing 2 friends with her!!
I booked the 10 of us this Jan. for our June 29th cruise. The only drawback for booking that late was no room assignments, only guaranties. So we will make the best of whatever Disney gives us in Cat 5. My TA said that we could cancel or change cruisers up to final payment [we weren't sure about some of our invited guests.]

If you have a discount, book the 2 cabins! It will be like having a suite. Will there be room for one more? I am free in March :D

BTW, on the ship or in disney hotels, adjoining means next to each other, connecting means they have the doors between them.

Thanks for all the great info. I'm leaning twords 2 cabins as the extra room would be nice even if we don't have friends with us. The difference for 2 cat 9's instead of 1 looks to be about 400 with our discount, if I'm calculating correctly. I do hope DD can find someone to come along, last year she had fun but didn't really find a group to hang out with even though she is a very social person and not afraid to make friends(it could have been because she was missing her boyfriend). She went to Common Grounds a few times but actually spent a lot of time with us, which was nice because at home we never see her! Her brother was 14 last year and we never saw him except when we forced him to eat with us. He found a group of friends and they hung out together all the time, he still e-mails some of them still. I think they were all teary eyed departure morning.

Kim,
We just returned from our rebooked cruise from the 50% technical diff last year. We booked two cat#10 connecting staterooms and were able to grab the secret porthole rooms 5522/5524 -- they were great!!! Shelby took a friend -- and her friends rate came in at the 1/2 price also --- so that was an added bonus! Hubby and I really enjoyed having the privacy of a room to ourselves too! Shelby and her friend LOVED being able to partake in the 'adult' activities in Rockin Bar D at night -- and they were usually always out until 3am or later. Email me if you have any questions.
