Booked with Allegiant... so mad!

I booked a flight with Allegiant since they fly non stop to MCO. The drop down box says Orlando. Not Orlando/Sanford. I guess my flight will actually go to Sanford. Allegiant says it is a glitch (not saying Sanford).

Now I have to pay extra to leave from another airport. I am so mad!

Allegiant does fly into MCO. But not all flights do. When the drop down box said Orlando, I assumed it meant MCO not Sanford.

I called Allegiant and they admitted it was a glitch (it should have said Orlando/Sanford). I said how is that my fault?

So now I get to either keep the flight and go to Sanford and find a way to Disney or pay more to leave from a different airport and go straight to MCO.

If they admitted it is their fault ask them to refund your money so you can book an airline that flys into MCO.

Did they offer to let you cancel the flight with a refund because of the issue? If they refused to let you cancel without a full refund then I would agree with being upset that their website 'glitch' cost you money.

But if they offered a refund, they did the right thing and you should be quite happy that they accepted responsibility and wanted to make it right.

There is a small box, over on the left hand side of the Allegiant site, that says...'Where we fly', under travel tools. If you click on that it will bring up a map, with a dot over Orlando...click on that green dot and it will give you Orlando/Sanford.

If I were you, and you got a really good fare, I would just look for transportation from Sanford. Or, rent a car. Renting a car is going to be the cheapes way to go...one day at each end of your trip.

We flew into Sanford last year and there really are some pros ...

small airport...can get through really quickly

drive from Sanford was not much longer than MCO

we rented a car and honestly it was a godsend. Loved not having to wait for busses...can come and go as you please. Was nice to be able to leave the resort to get groceries, alcohol..and to the disney outlets. Honestly the cost of the car equalled out to the money we saved buying souvenirs at the outlet and picking up some snack and some drinks. I think I paid maybe $15 for 12 pack of beer ( microbrew) rather than spending 5 or 6 dollars a bottle at the resort.

Just some ideas in case you can't change your flight.

They haven't decided what they are going to do. I am waiting for a manager to call me. He/She will have the ability to waive the fees for changing the flight (if they will waive the fees).

I would just re-book with Allegiant and fly out of Des Moines. The cost will be more. $40 a person roundtrip. $160 for 4 of us. Can I get a shuttle/ride roundtrip from Sanford for that amount?

It is more of a hassle to fly into Sanford I would think.

Orlando has a major airport (MCO). The web site or brochure should not say just "Orlando" when a flight to or from Sanford is intended.

Flying into Tampa or Sanford is not that big a difference compared with Orlando when you rent a car; when you have more precise control over timing.

There are other similar situations too although I don't know if any other airlines deceive passengers that way. For example who would be happy booking a trip to Boston (MA) and ending up in Manchester NH, 60 miles away? (MHT is called Manchester Boston airport.)

You can look into a town car service if you can't or don't want to rent a car. They run a bit over $100 round trip, and you'll get a grocery stop as well.

Hope it all works out for the best for you!

A car service will run about double to get to and from Sanford. About $200 or so, plus tip.
Look into renting a car...it's an easy drive.

Melbourne now also mentions Orlando in their description for Delta and US Airways. It is up to people traveling to know where the airport is located.

When WDW first opened and flights into McCoy (MCO) were limited Eastern Airlines used to try to get people to go to Melbourne for WDW. The more things change the more they stay the same.

I hate to say it but before you confirm and pay for your flight, you must accept the legs you chose. Despite what the drop-down box said, you did confirm with airport codes so don't be surprised if Allegiant doesn't offer you anything.

Taxi from Sanford is not cheap, as someone mentioned it's about $100 each way. Renting a car isn't bad in comparison and gives you that convenience.

The airfare difference to fly to MCO from a different airport is $160 roundtrip. Plus it is a 2 hour drive to that airport versus a little over an hour to the one I booked at. Slightly more gas cost if I was to change airports.

I guess overall the cost is going to be the same (when figuring in getting a roundtrip ride from a car service)

I agree with the others about renting a car. Most of the major rental car agencies are located at Sanford. We have flown in four times, enjoyed the ride to WDW, and the advantage of knowing we have a vehicle if needed, which was a good thing one trip since my DH forgot his medicine and we had to find a CVS to get enough for the week.

Hmmm ... according to Google Maps it's about 55 minutes from Sanford to WDW.

Taxi (Mears) one way from Sanford to WDW will run you close to $130.00. Car service begins at $160.00 round trip from Sanford. The car service companies are listed on the Sanford Airport website.
