Waiting for codes for November is killing me. What's killing me more is changing my reservation plans from a moderate to SOG. Family had their hearts set on POR. Did it today, just had to book something and on the emails everyone is getting part of my dates are 'blacked-out' so I thought I'd better book just in case that's true when AP Rates come out. Since my dad is going with us we can stay at SOG but I'm still a little bummed.

One question for you SOG fans....are their busses wheelchair accessible? My dad will be in an ECV all the time so this is important to us.

Also, anyone ever had luck with early check in at SOG? We are arriving around noon and dad will be desperately in need of a place to lay down by then.

thanks

Can any SOG experts help Lori out with these questions?

Karen

When we stayed at SOG there were ECV and wheelchair users on the buses. The drivers were a little slower loading them than most WDW drivers (like they weren't as familiar with how the lifts worked), but the buses did have lifts.

One hurdle down, now just have to convince myself that I will not die from missing out on my first real on-site disney hotel with theming experience :) Course, I'm still hoping for those mysterious AP room rates to appear!

As you can see from my signature, SOG was my first onsite WDW hotel experience. I was not disappointed. The best thing was the size of the rooms. Four adults sharing a room can feel crowded, especially when one is sleeping on the pull-out sofa (or technically on the mattress on the floor as the sofa was broken). At roughly 450 square feet, there was plenty of room. It also had a normal-sized dining table and four chairs instead of the small table most hotel rooms use.

I stayed at SOG for the first time during my honeymoon and I too was apprehensive about it. I had my heart set on a "real" Disney resort and thought I'd be disappointed. We had a wonderful stay though and loved it so much that we were actually disappointed when we got our letter last year that the SOG renovations wouldn't be completed in time and we had to stay at the Contemporary instead.

Can't answer your other questions, but just wanted to reassure you that SOG really doesn't have a "military" feel to it like I was afraid of. In fact, from the pictures of the renovations I've seen on line, the lobby area reminds me a little bit of Wilderness Lodge!

Can't wait for my third SOG stay this January. Oh and Ashley, check out my countdown, looks like we'll be there the same time! :)

Lori -

I sent you a PM about one of your earlier posts. Let me know if you didn't receive it, and I'll try again.

We have stayed at SOG (before renovations) and CR (during renovations) I have to say I liked SOG better. Yes CR had the monorail, but the rooms at SOG were nicer and larger. No you do not get the cute soap boxes and shampoos but for the price you can't beat SOG. I have ressies for the first week of DEC,at SOG but I would really like to try AKL. I am waiting for either the military code to be extended or for other codes to come out. Anyway you look at it WDW here we come !!!!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :yo-yo: ::yes::

Lori:

My DH and myself will be spending part of our 25th wedding anniversary trip at SOG. I have been on these sites for well over 4 months and have read just about everything I could find about SOG.

This will be my DH first trip to WDW and my first since 1974, so we wanted something special. When I learned about SOG and all the new additions, restaurants and how nice the guest service are I was excited. Then add on a room with a frig. and coffee pot, at no extra cost. The size of the rooms is a hugh plus. The area the resort is located is near the MK and there is beautiful wooded areas all around with deer and water fowl. Add in the great price. I felt it just could not be beat.

Take a look at all the photo's at the sites listed in the above messages. I think you will be impressed.

DH and myself can't wait until we are there. Hope you have a wondeful vacation where ever you decide.

We stayed there prior to the renovations and arrived early and were able to check in. Not only us, but my sister and her family too.

We both had stayed at offsite hotels the night before and where they came from their hotel to SoG, we went to AK first and then headed over to SoG and got there within 5 minutes of each other.

Check out these pics from the "new" SoG.

More Shades of Green pics

Shades of Green is on par to a Deluxe, so think of it as an upgrade, not "this or nothing". We have always liked staying at Shades of Green when we can get in.

As you can see from my signature, we've stayed at SOG plenty of times and plan to go back again in December. It is a beautiful resort especially since the renovation!

Sorry, I don't have an answer for the ECV question and about early check in. Hope you got the answers from the SOG website.

Have a wonderful trip! SOG is a great place to stay!

SOG is wonderful, it's the only place I like to stay! On early check in, it just depends, sometimes you can get in early, but if it is really busy and is full probably not! But if you explain the problem, they will do their best to accomadate you! Have a great trip!! :jester:

I have stayed CBR and POR (on my honeymoon) and stayed at SOG in 2000.

We love SOG and will be staying there again in November.

My feeling is that for the money spent SOG is totally worth it. Maybe there is not the Disney theme, but SOG is definetly nicer than some other places we've stayed at recently. And, with the renovations the pictures look like they've added more of a theme. The rooms are clean, quiet (much quiter than POR), and big! The pool was very nice. And, the food was so reasonable and good. We would eat almost every breakfast there and usually a lunch or dinner. The prices were much better than in the actual parks (gave us more money to spend on souvenirs).

I remember in 2000 the room wasn't ready when we got there, so we bought our tickets and went and had lunch at their on-site restaurant. By the time we were done, the rooms were ready!

I love SOG.

I just returned and I loved SHades of Green. They do have accessible busses and they run on a regular schedule too.

I think this is the biggest room I have ever had, the resort was beautiful. I have never met such happy frinedly people anywhere!! Also during the hurricane they did all they could to help any concerns you may have which to me was a plus.

The only thing you will lack is less disney TV channels. But let me tell you the larger room made it easy for us to be bunkered down for the duraton of the hurricane.

I think the decore in side reminded me of Beach Club and when you pull up it reminded me of Wilderness logde outside.

We are staying at SOG for the first time this October. I do have a couple of questions I couldn't get answered when I made my reservations.

Do they have room service?
Is the AFES store finished and how large is it? What kind of items do they have for sale?

Thank you for any all information.

Do they have room service? Yes I saw someone picking up trays from a room and it was deffinelty room service.

Is the AFES store finished and how large is it? What kind of items do they have for sale?

Not overly big. It Has a few food items a few souvineers and a few personal type items. And even a few clothes but not a lot.
I saw some towels, there were a few Disney souveneers a few toys. The food included snacks, milk, water and juice, I beleve alcohol, cereal (Only a couple choices) The personal items had things like diapers, ointments, lotions, ladies personal products, some medicines. I would say its smaller than a 7-11 store.
