No DCL this time. DW doesn't want to fly/drive/train to FL so we booked a cruise to Bermuda from NJ. Looking for any input from people who have been there. Good beaches, things to see etc.

Thanks

I can't say enough how much I love Bermuda. Many, many years ago it is the only place I would sail to - so very clean, so very safe, just so beautiful. I've been to many other islands but nothing compares to Bermuda. It
is great when your ship can dock right on Hamilton St. (the main street
in Bermuda). I can't remember the names of the beaches, it has been
so long since I've been there but I have only fond memories of that place.
If you are inclined, you can rent a moped and really see the island.
My advice: DO IT! Any other questions, PM me or ask here. - Lucy

Bermuda is a gorgeous island. We cruised there last year on NCL, out of Boston. The kids enjoyed the zoo/aquarium and the Crystal Cave tour. We went to 1 of the beaches thats a short walk from where the ship docked(we were in St George's). If thats where you will be and want to go to one of those beaches, I would suggest a shuttle. The roads are very narrow and people drive like maniacs.
One other suggestion is to try the Swizzle Inn(near the Crystal Caves). They are famous for their Rum Swizzler and boy were they good! The other thing I recommend there would be their onion rings. They were the most amazing onion rings I ever had...almost like a puff pastry on the outside...Now Im dying for some. ;)
Have a great trip!

Hi,

I use to live in Bermuda and am headed back on a cruise in a couple of weeks.

You will be docking at the West end of the island called both King's Warf and Dockyard as it is the only place the big ships can dock. From here you can take the ferry into Hamilton, which is a nice ride across the Great Sound and it takes about 20 minutes if you get the express ferry. The good beaches are on the south shore. Horseshoe Bay is my favourite and has some good facilities. It is a quick bus or taxi ride from Dockyard. You can buy a three day transportation pass for both the ferry and bus. This is the most cost effective way to get around.

In Dockyard is a Snorkel Park, Dolphin Quest dolphin interactions, Maritime Museum, a craft makret, glass blowing, rum cake factory and a little mall with stores in it. It is all set in the old British fortifications so very nice. The Frog and Onion Pub is there too. They have the best burgers.

St. Georges is on the East end of the island and will take about an hour to get to from Dockyard. There is a ferry that goes there too. If you have any specific questions let me know, and if you want I can pick up some info when I am there in a couple of weeks and mail it off to you.

We have cruised from NY to Bermuda and loved the trip! Bermuda is gorgeous and clean! We especially loved Horse shoe Bay beach! We docked at the Wharf, took the tender into Hamilton and rented mopeds :moped: It was insane! Not only was it the first time I rode a moped, but they drive on the opposite side of the road! It was a memorable experience!

My family and I cruised to Bermuda from Philadelphia last year. Bermuda is beautiful. We were on the Celebrity cruise line, they docked one day at St. George's. If that is one of your ports don't miss being on deck for the entrance into the harbor. Hard to believe that the ship fits through such a tiny opening. We then spent almost three days docked at Hamilton Street. If your cruise is during the summer, last year on Wednesday night they had a street festival on Hamilton Street. The shops stayed open late and island crafters sold their wares on the street. We took a taxi to Horseshoe Bay, it is beautiful definitely a must. We also took a tour of Fort St. Catherine (I believe that is the name). That is in St. George by the bay. We walked from the ship, it was a nice hike, just make sure you bring water. My sons did a kayak excursion and really enjoyed that. We did the Island Bus tour and Aquarium tour, we had an excellent tour guide. Any other questions feel free to ask. I'm sure you'll enjoy Bermuda.
