Booked ADR for 3 people, but its only for 2?

Yeah but its also not fair for those who got on here and said it was wrong when I didnt start this thread to ask peoples opinions weither or not if it was right or wrong. I asked what happens if you showed up at the podium with less people. If I wanted peoples opinions on what they thought if it was right or wrong, I would have asked that. I dont even know why this thread is still going. Frankly it can close already. It was dead for awhile and now its being picked back up again. And yes they did ruin it for me. I was excited about CM and so was DH. People got on here and starting putting me down and saying I was lying and being selfish and etc. How can all that not ruin it for someone? Yes I did make the cancellation. But they drove me to it.

No one here ruined it for you. You chose to cancel the reservation based on what others here thought of you for doing such a "horrible thing". I have two ADRs currently booked for three and we're a party of two. I could give a rat's *@# about what people think I should or shouldn't do regarding my ADR's. Frankly it's none of their business. I'm happy to take my chances at the podium when I check in. I bet you're wishing you would have taken a chance too, but it's not fair to blame others for your actions.

What will happen when you get to the podium is directly related to whether or not what you did with booking the ADR is right or wrong. For instance, if it's right to do what you did, then x will happen at the podium. If it's wrong, then y will happen. I'm not sure why you are surprised at the responses you got.

And, as a tip, if you want a thread to die, the easiest thing to do is to stop posting on it.

If you were confident in your original decision, you would have never cancelled. I simply can't wrap my mind around how others are to blame for the decisions you made. Nobody drove you to do anything. You picked up the phone, you dialed the number, you cancelled the ADR - the only one to blame is yourself.

Ok, I have no comment on whether a party of 2 should or shouldn't book as a party of 3 if no 2-tops are available.

I also have no experience in what may or may not happen when a party checks in with the wrong number of people (more or less people).

So I probably have no business commenting on this thread anyway ;)

BUT

since I started reading the thread because I was genuinely interested in what people's experiences were when showing up at the podium with the wrong number of people. (We are a party of 7 and while I HOPE all will go as planned and we'll all stay together and everyone will make it to our ADRs, I know that the more people you have in a group, the less likely that is to happen. I just wanted to know what to expect if it happened to change last minute) AND
I felt compelled to read it all the way through in case there were some actual tips in some of the replies (thanks to those folks who DID reply with info on what they experienced under those circumstances! :thumbsup2 ) ...

I thought I'd offer up a left turn to see if this thread might head in a more productive (or at least more friendly) direction since it doesn't look as though it's likely to die any time soon...

(I know this has been mentioned elsewhere, but it seemed appropriate to mention here too)

Some random thoughts on dining as a party of 2 people in WDW :goodvibes

Insomuchas parties of 2 have an extremely difficult time finding ADRs at certain dining locations (use Chef Mickeys as an example) because of a limited number of 2-tops at these locations AND

Given that the ADR cancellation/trade/openings boards ALWAYS have folks desperate to get into these same locations. IF

you are a party of 2 that is unable to secure an ADR for a 2-top BUT
you are able to secure an ADR for a larger party (say 4 or even 6)...
you might consider adding a little pixie dust to someone elses day (and maybe adding a little 'magic' to your own) by taking the larger reservation and then offering to let another party (of 2 or 4 or however many empty seats you have booked) JOIN YOU for dinner :cheer2: ta-da!

Ok, yes, there is a chance that whoever takes you up on the offer may not be delightful company (so I can see not doing this for an Anniversary etc as was the original case here) BUT

I'd like to think that you'd really be making someone's day AND you might get to meet some really cool people to boot :woohoo:

So, I spoke with a very nice woman at Disney Dining yesterday. I inquired about tables for two because my "third person" would not be joining us. To show you all how flawed this system is - she tells me if I change the ADR, I can no longer eat at this restaurant because there is no availability. Wait - I have an ADR for a party of three at 9pm and just want to remove one from the party - why can't I just have the same table??? As most of you know the system is set up to seat one to two and three to four. They will not put two adults at a table for four. I suppose this is because they would make more money off of four than two. :confused3 Now, while on the phone, I asked her to check for the next night (different restaurant) for the same scenario - wouldn't you know - same thing happened. If I changed my ADR the restaurant shows full. I then asked her what she recommended I do. She said, "I strongly suggest you hold on to what you currently have and check back often to see if you can make the change. You will still be seated at the restaurant even if you can't make the change." Now, we all know she was most likely blowing smoke, but I did keep my table for three, and will probably do as she suggests. Just thought I would share.
