Booked a resort, when should I purchase my tickets?

I'm booking Pop Century for the last week in October and spending 5 days in the parks. I'm wondering if I should purchase my park tickets now or can I put it off for a little while.

If you want the advantage of booking FP+ 60 days in advance then you'll want to purchase your tickets by then at least.

Definitely before 60 days so that you can make your FP at that time. Prices have already increased for this year, so there's no rush. Keep in mind that if you are trying to spread out the expense, if you have multiple people staying in your room, you can buy one ticket at a time, they don't all have to be purchased at once (or you could buy gift cards and hold them and buy the tickets all at once)

Thanks for the info. The gift card thing is a great idea. I think its cheaper to buy them all at once and buying gift cards would pretty much be like making payments on them.

Why not just book a package so you can put a $200 down payment now and make payments as you go? Balance is due 30 days prior to check-in, but if you book a package, you don't need to purchase tickets outright and risk having non-refundable tickets on your hands if something happens and you can't go.

That was the original plan but I found out I can purchase discount tickets through my employer. I have to pay the total amount up front but it's $200 saved.

But the cancellation policy is different and the time that you pay is different, I believe.

Correct, but by booking a package there is less risk of having to invest in non-refundable tickets purchased separately.

You can buy refundable tickets separately if you want to. That’s what I did.

Yes. Undercover Tourist sells returnable/refundable tickets (less a 5% restocking fee). We have a trip planned for October. We aren’t 100% sure if we’re going, but I wanted to get tickets before the price increase. They won’t take the tickets back if they’ve been linked, but we should know by 60 days out whether or not we’re going so I can link the tickets and get Fastpasses.

Right, but if you buy a package, you still have ZERO risk of ending up with very expensive, non-refundable tickets. You WILL run that risk once you link your tickets. They are non-refundable at that point. If something happens within 60 days of your trip, you're out of luck. Someone who booked a package and cancels within 60 days, does not run that risk. They will risk cancellation and change fees if something happens within 30 days, but they can always avoid that by simply re-scheduling their trip.

True, but I could also reschedule my trip and use the tickets. I’ve always booked packages in the past, but I like that I can cancel the room with less than a week’s notice and incur no penalty. The tickets can be used later (or I can apply their cost to new tickets should they expire before I can use them).

In your scenario, I believe rescheduling the trip with less than 60 days notice incurs a $50 penalty.
