book universal hotel or not?

Thanks for the asda travel tip - I managed to save £100 over my previous booking with sunshine.co.uk which only cost me £1 to cancel

OP, you won't regret your decision. In 2011, we started at WDW and then moved to HRH for 2 days to get the express for Universal and the early park admittance for Harry Potter. We were there on December 22 and checked out on December 24. Needless to say, it was a very busy time for the park but we honestly didn't wait more than 5 minutes for ANY ride. So worth it just for the passes but another plus is the staff at HRH~wonderful!

that's good to hear,thanks.:)

was this with asda, that's quite a leap in price?!

try http://www.lowcostholidays.com/

hope you find a better price.:goodvibes

Yes it was with Asda but went on Trivago today and can get one night for 4 at £182. Will have a think. Would be a nice treat as Ds's would be coming up to 18 and 21 and I'm sure they'd love it. Don't really know what the prices are like for end of June. Is this a good price ? :confused3

The universal hotels are all cheap compared to what Disney charge.
DW & I will be staying 3 nights in December @ Portofino bay in a King room for much less, than our split disney on-site stay will cost

Definitely!!

We stayed at the Hard Rock for one night ($289) for the first time this October and it was more than worth it. We did need the early entry as Harry Potter was, as it always is, packed as soon as the park officially opened.

The luxury and ease of walking/sailing straight to the entrance is worth it on it's own but the room was gorgeous, the staff were fantastic and my daughter ended up bagging two birthday cakes!

The buffet breakfast was amazing, loads and loads of food.

Next time we go we'll be staying there for longer, I would recommend this hotel on it's own to anyone but with the added unlimited fast pass it's perfect.

did you pay extra for your breakfast?
I just thought it would be a room only deal,if we got breakfast included, that would be a bonus.:goodvibes

No we didn't get a breakfast included, sorry, just saying the breakfast was fantastic :)

The only thing I found with Trivago was that the deals that appeared to be too good to be true weren't available when I clicked through to the operator's sites. My price with asda was £161 per night for the 4 of us at HRH. Direct through Lowes it was $334 + taxes :scared: and because our dates are before the US schools return I was advised it was unlikely to drop much. The guys on the US/IOA boards are really helpful for letting you know if you are likely to get and discounts and what they would be.

Trivago was showing at £157 but when I went to the site it was for 2 people. Changed it to 4 and got the £182 price. Loews was $384 + taxes. Will take your advice and post on the US/IOA boards. Thanks :goodvibes

You were right. Got onto the site via Trivago, changed to 4 people and got new price, clicked next button and the new page says ' error return to previous page'. So annoying :headache: Have used the site before and never had this.

Was it clever hotels by any chance? I was getting the same message. Really annoying. Hope you manage to get something sorted

We stayed 13/14August last year and it was so busy. We had one night at Hard Rock and whilst I was not that impressed with hotel I was so glad we stayed as I would have given up in the park by 10am. I lost count of the amount of people we saw buying those 1 day express passes for $100 + each. So for 3 of us it was a big saving. My husband didn't even bother staying night at hotel and went back to Our resort at Bonnet Creek mainly due to rooms being so small in comparison. It was an exhausting couple of days but well worth it. Still deciding whether to do the same thing this year but will add another £500 to cost if holiday for just 2 days so alot of money.

Yes it was. Used them in November for weekend in London and had no problem. Put in a dummy run for London again and it came up fine so obviously the problem's booking the Hard Rock. Have e-mailed them but no reply. Oh well, still time before June :surfweb:
