book suggestions for 12/13 yo girl?

quick. i need to buy a gift for a 12 year old girl. she told me she wants books, but wasn't specific on what she likes. She did however tell me "not twilight"...her mother is getting that? Anyway, can anyone advise about this age group?

try The Ink Exchange by Marr (melissa marr I think),
or Marked by PC and Kristen Cast.

If she likes the Twilight genre she will prob like these, both YA books. also Stephanie Meyer wrote another book, The Host which was very diffrent from Twilight but good. I also would suggest The Hunger Games by Collins or your local libary and ask the YA person for suggestions

The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis (actually 7 books, but ALL are good!) or The Giver...can't remember whom it is by, but it is excellent!

Lois Lowry. And I agree very excellent.

I have always bought Newberry Award books for my niece, consistently excellent.

Check out the Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper. Age appropriate fantasy/good vs. evil and really good.

thank you all for your suggestions. I chose the one called "Marked". It's a tough age to buy for considering my own kids are just 7 and 5. I had no idea what would be appropriate for her.
