Can someone refresh my memory as to why I would book room only +tickets vs. booking a package? Does the package actually save any money? Don't think I'm interested in the dining plan either as I've heard/read that its too much food considering the appetites of my crew.

Thanks!

It's just a matter of preference, IMO. Booking a package doesn't save any money over booking RO and getting tickets separately unless there is a promo that applies only to packages. There are different deposit requirements, cancellation policies, and payment in full for each reservation type.

RO requires a deposit of 1 night's room rate + tax, with balance due at check in, with the ability to cancel for a full refund if done at least 5 days prior to arrival.

Packages require a $200 deposit, with balance due 45 days prior to arrival (30 days starting with 2016 bookings), with the ability to cancel for a full refund if done at least 45 days from arrival (30 days starting in 2016).

Some people book RO for the flexible payment/cancellation policy and buy tickets separately through Undercover Tourist (I have never bought through them as I've never found the great savings that others have posted about). Either reservation type can have a room discount applied (pending availability), with the discount being on the room portion only of a package.

yeah, Undercover Tourist is always cheaper and now just as easy to put on the MDE. The fact that Disney doesn't have the tax on their tix until you checkout and UT shows you the price with tax up front is why some don't think they are cheaper. We always use them.

Also, there's the Mousesaver's UT link to get even more savings. UT will also sometimes has a free day. It may not be necessary, but it's nice to have if you might pop into the park for just an hour or two on arrival or departure.

We almost always do room only. I like the ability to cancel up to five days out just in case. The package "freebies" aren't really anything good and the only ones we have ever used are the mini golf tixs.

A couple of mini-golfs is the only reason if you aren't adding dining, or getting free dining. We like the flexibility of cancelling 5 days out, so we've never done a package. We are doing it for Free Dining this time, otherwise, we'd be doing room only again.
